Hi all,

This awesome model has not seen a rules update in almost a decade which, to me, is a crying shame, so I'm interested in establishing new (balanced) rules for this baby. My current ideas are:

Make the Laser Destroyer Str10 AP1 (no brainer to me, this is one of the most high powered and ancient weapons in the imperial arsenal)
Add a targetter (+1 BS)
Add the ability to chose a veteran crew for +10 points, confers Tank Hunters USR (Only tank aces and the most experienced crews are given Destroyers)
Make it a 0-1 per detachment (They're rare, very very rare)

I'd raise the point cost slightly from the original 160p to 180p (and +10 for tank hunters)

This way it's a rare tank that does one thing, but does it really well, compared to the vanquisher it's more limited since it lack secondary armament but you will hit 2/3 of the time and you are more or less guaranteed a pen if you do.

Comments please?

Laser Destroyers have current rules. In fact, they are included in the very latest book produced by Forge World.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

You're thinking of rapiers, this is not a rapier, it's a 72" Str 10 Ap2 ordnance that does not use a blast marker. It got a mention in august last year when the IA:1 rules were updated but it remained completely unchanged since IA:1.

I am inclined to agree, though the main problem with the Laser Destroyer is the very same problem the Vanquisher has.

Not enough enemy tanks to warrant such a destructive and expensive platform.

Normal anti-tank options for the Guard are lascannons and meltaguns on infantry, and for my armored battlegroup it's demolishers and the regular Russ's Str 8 Ordnance gun.

The single-shot, no blast, expensive gun that can one-shot land raiders with ease is a thing of the past, mostly.

No, I'm thinking of Laser Destroyers. Rapiers can carry Laser Detroyers; they can also carry other things.
