Jealous that Horus is Warmaster
|
hey guys, so this is the back story for my chapter - The Warp Angels
if you see any flaws please point them out, so i can make it right haha.
M37
The Warp Angels chapter is founded during the 22nd founding from the Blood Angel's gene seed, and quickly start to excel in seige breaker and hit and run tactics.
321. M37
The Chapter is found to be 'Lacking faith' by Saint Basilius and join 30 other chapters on the Abyssal Crusade into the eye of terror.
941. M41
Warp Angels Chapter re-enters realspace in the Armageddon system on the last remaining ship of their fleet; the Battle Barge - Shadow of Intent, With just over one company of battle-brothers surviving aswell as the Chapter Master and most of the Chapters captains, They procede to make planetfall on Armageddon Prime and aid in the second war for Armageddon.
After the War, the Chapter surrenders itself for inspection by the inquisition for the taint of Chaos, every battle-brother is deemed - Pure.
Upon Learning of Saint Basillius being declared a false idol, the Chapter master (and by extension the rest of the chapter) becomes untrusting of higher powers eg. the inquisition, administratum ect.
Due to the chapter being presumed to be Destroyed or turning to chaos, they lost their planet to another chapter from another founding and therefore their ability to recruit reagularly is gone.
969. M41
Warp Angels pursue the plague ship Terminus est. to stop the zombie plague, although the ship escapes the Warp Angels aid in the clean up, quarantine and Exterminatus of the Affected systems, and develop a close relationship with a Veteran Reginment of the imperial guard, and Salamanders chapter.
(this part of the story is based on a campaign i have run)
757998. M41
Warp Angels aid in the 3rd war for armageddon by supporting the Salamanders chapter.
The majority of the Chapter is comprised of Veterans from the Abyssal crusade, the chapter is currently recruiting in small numbers wherever they can, although it is not enough to stem the black rage, the chapter is slowly dying.
What do you guys think ?
i am currently working on the part of the story taking place during the crusade and how they escape destruction etc.

It's honestly a bit much; the entire Chapter goes into the Eye of Terror, the remainder come out thousands of years later and are deemed perfectly pure? I'd advise either making them renegades still operating on behalf of the Imperium but wanted by the Inquisition, or having their inspection after their expedition end in a purge of corrupted elements.

Agree, BA seed is damaged so you would expect more extreme manifestation of thirst at a minimum. These guys sound more like Ultras.
Is some very fertile material here for storytelling. Epic conflicts they are a part of, imperium turns its back on them, how does that effect their morale and discourse among path forward, discipline etc while the chapter gets more and more hammered, as well as the interplay with allies.

I dunno, the Vorpal Swords and the 13th Company seemed to have pulled it off.
So what, this is some 31st Abyssal Crusade Chapter that got misplaced when the incident was being written out. Some puritan 40k nerds might throw a rage (although it would impress me if they could remember all the names of the canonical Abyssal Crusade chapters without consulting the chaos codex). Also using the word "warp" in their name sounds kind of suspicious to me for a loyal chapter.

Please change the name of the Battle Barge. Sharing the name with a prominent Covenant carrier is too much of an obvious reference to Halo.
I'd also alter the Armageddon bit, only 3 Chapters os Space Marines were noted as participating in the second war. You might, might be able to claim they fought in the third war, but Armageddon is a bit too famed to insert a chapter into.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Just as a note, remember that time does not flow the same way in the warp as it does in realspace, it doesn't even follow the same rules. If two ships, one at either end of a solar system, travel to another system located such that each ship travels the same distance, with both ships departing and arriving at the same moment in realspace, the clocks on both ships could have a completely different result. For one ship, a mere half hour could have passed, and for the other, a century could have, with the original inhabitants either dying off or having entered into cryostasis to survive the journey. So while they may have been in the warp for 1000 years, the passing of time to them may have been a much smaller increment, say 50 years, in which case it is not entirely unreasonable for the chapter to remain pure.

Some good ideas above, I agree that if you gonna have Warp in your name then you probably going to be tainted by chaos.

I dont know, I do like the fluff. Just the whole part about going into the warp, coming out after thousands of years, and everyone is pure seems a bit out there. Considering grey knights are the only marines that can't be taken by chaos. Up to you, but Warp angels sounds like a cool renegade chapter fighting for there own, rather than part of the imperium.
Also you say they become untrusting of the inquisition, they would surely not if they are deemed pure. Or if the inquisition found out about this, would have their own things to say.

If they are found pure before they lose their trust in the Inquisition it wouldn't make a difference.
The warp part of the name doesn't really matter IMO.
I think it's okay to have them exit the warp and still be pure. You could say that the chapter now has a higher than average number of chaplains and during their campaign in the warp there were many executions as brothers mutated, went insane or simply turned.

And that could be a cool reason why only 1 battle barge came back out the warp
