I'm interested in starting a pre-heresy space marine legion and love the MK IV models, however, I also like the loyalist legions, and I know Horus made it so only the traitor legions had access to the MK IV power armour with the exception of a few loyalist legions, does anybody know which legions these are?
Thanks guys.

Ive never heard of the traitor legions only having mkIV armor. I dont know much about the heresy but where did you hear that from? I read that of pre heresy armor its the most used in the 41st millennium so I would assume the traitor legions wouldnt be the only legions that had it.

I had heard that Horus, being the warmaster, before beginning the Heresy had the loyalist legions sent to the far reaches of the galaxy, so that the traitor legions would have access to the latest armour from Mars, and the loyalists would not.

ALL legions had access to the Mk. IV pre-Heresy, just that some had access more than others. For most legions, the more advanced armours were reserved for officers and such.

The Raven Guard had the most advanced armour. It was delivered to the legion by the Imperial fists after Corax went to Terra. The Raven Guard that received it from the Imperial Fist that it was a slight because they called it the Corvus pattern because the helmets had beaks.

Can anyone tell me when the different bolter patterns were introduced? I know that the phobos pattern was introduced at the beginning of the great crusade with MkII armour, and the Umbra sometime during the great crusade, and that the tigrus pattern was introduced just before the Horus heresy and the umbra ferrox was a modification during the heresy, but was the 40k standard godwyn pattern introduced during the heresy or before as well? Seeing as MkVII armour which it is associated with was made during the heresy, it would make sense for it heresy era, but im not sure, and i dont want to stick some on my heresy era imperial fists if it isnt fluff-correct.

I think the Goldwyn was around during the heresy, in betrayal there are marines with it.

Thanks gianlucafiorentini123. After your post I looked closely through all of the pictures in Betrayal, and I found a Deathguard marine wielding a Godwyn pattern bolter in an image on page 124.
