Subject: Prescience on an artillery squadron?

Has anyone tried putting Prescience on a squadron of 3 Basilisks? Is that even legal? Wouldn't you reroll the initial scatter and then reroll each flip? In theory this would make for an insane amount of damage to the target and even have an excellent chance of spilling over onto other targets in the intial volley. Anyone tried this?

That's almost 500pts spent on 2 units that can only kill 1 target per turn. Seems pretty poor really.
Especially when you consider the squadron rules. If meltas drop behind those basilisks they're probably all going to go in one round, artillery just isn't durable enough to warrant investing 500pts.

You get similar firepower out of a single manticore. Using prescience on a manticore really amps up its firepower. Being able to get a !Hit! on the second and third shots is reall nasty.

Not entirely true. With the way you drop templates and the reroll for each one, you could effectively walk three large templates over several units / vehicles. Add to that the fact that you just need to touch a vehicle and...
The real nail in this one is you need an allied psyker to do it.

No, but you don't take a RP by themselves and it just adds to the cost of the combo.
I would ally a RP in for his utility, not just to TL my Basilisks.

Actually without giving up to many trade secrets I was hoping to have an allied IG force in with Blood Angels. I was going to take a BA Librarian and a squadron of 2 enclosed Medusas. The Medusas would be shielded by a Bastion and get Prescience cast on them.

RPs are better. 100pts for divination and a 24" bubble of psychic defence! Yes please! Combined with one of the best troop choices out of every codex - GHs. Also Medusae aren't barrage, you need LoS for them to fire. With BB shells they can move and fire though which is nice. Still, allies aren't a way to just twin link stuff. It drastically over-costs the unit you're TLing especially when you take into account that you have to pay the TAC tax (in the case of BA or SM). You'd be better off getting 2 squads of 2 Medusae IMO. More durable, higher damage ceiling and just as accurate as twin-linking. On walking the barrage, I guess you could do that, but it's not really reliable unlike taking 2 squads, especially as you can only re-roll misses. If you get the hit you have to take it, even if in the case you're proposing you'd rather the scatter.

The second squad is also more expensive. If you assume the general rule that twin-linking is about 50% more firepower then twin-linking a squadron of two Medusas is worth about 130 points. The Rune Priest gives you that 50% more firepower for less than 50% more points, and it gives you psychic defense and the option to get other powers.

A hit with a multiple barrage weapon doesn't mean you hit the original target point, it means you place the template anywhere you like touching a previous template. So if you want to scatter a hit lets you scatter the shot anywhere you want.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Yes its doable, no it's not exactly smart, and you reroll the first time you roll a scatter arrow on any of the shots.

All fine, except op wants to use BA not SW.

But it can be entirely over the previous template if you want IIRC. so you could have it just hit the same place twice.
