Im not suggesting this topic hasnt been discussed to death, but...

from the 4th ed IG codex, and especially because of the doctrines, i saw then next release (GW or FW) being Harakoni, because DKoK are just steel legion with chaos bitz on thier heads. I know Elysians "are" basicly Harakoni Warhawks, fluffwise, but i was really disappointed with the models (bar the bullpup rifles).

Going along with the idea that DKoK "were" SL with spikes, couldnt Harakoni Warhawks have just been a modification to Cadians? So wouldnt it just be better to have a range of IG conversion parts to remake existing IG models into unique regiments? Im sure we've all made SM chapters out of different kits... like, I have dark angel mixed with chaos.

Especially with all the parts available from, say, Kromlech, Maxmini, Victoria (and undoubtless countless other manufacturers) dont GW need to jump on the Custom IG bandwagon?

Well first of all, it depends on what you consider to be similar in the SL & DKoK. Stylisticly they're similar in that they wear trench coats & gas masks. However, both are patterned after German military forces. DKoK are the faceless multitude of WWI Prussian trench soldiers where quantity had a quality all its own. Their rules & codex list reflect this. Now the SL is patterned after WWII German Wehrmacht during the Blitz! as such they were (when they had their own rules) an army focused on rapid response & redeployment.

In regards to Elysians vs Harakoni there are significant differences. In terms of appearance warhawks are heavy infantry (in the guard sense). They were carapace armor & don't employ the same tactics, equipment or fighting style as Elysians who are rapid insertion troops with (typically) very specific mission goals such as linking up with friendlies pinned down, establishing a beachhead for less mobile regiments or even surgical strikes at a key target. The fluff for the Warhawks would seem to suggest more like a stormtrooper company (in game terms) of more heavily armed & armored troopers in the fight for the haul rather than hitting & then being extracted to hit elsewhere. I also don't see the Warhawks having the specialist equipment of Elysians but using more common place IG equipment. I see their infantry hitting the ground & securing the LZ for their heavy equipment to come in via lighters.

However keep this in mind: FW hostile environment cadians are basically what you're asking for. If you buy those & grav-chutes Warhawks you have. You can even add Elysian weapons if you want.

Personally I'm a huge fan of the Elysian models but I agree that GW is sorely lacking in custom parts designed for the cadian & catachan kits. It would be nice if they at least sold all the options available in the codex *cough* shotguns *cough cough* carapace armor *cough cough cough* demo charges.

*cough cough cough cough* Catachans wearing flak armour.

Yeah I meant aesthetically, I get the whole different backgrounds and tactics thang, and i guess doctrines are moot now we're on 5th edition. I just use the metal stormtroopers for my boyos.
