So I'm new to CSM and I'm running Plague marines as my troops. What I would like to know is what is the best way to out fit my PC.
So this is the what my squads have.

Plague Marines x7- Plasma Guns x2, PC w/ Combi-plasma and powerfist= 233pts

Plague Marines x7- melta guns x2, PC w/ Combi-melta and powerfist= 223pts

Plague Marines x7- Plasma Guns x2, PC w/ Combi-plasma and powerfist= 233pts

I have been doing some reading and got the the idea of giving the PCs power axes and melta bombs, so would you say that this is a better loadout for the PC or is there something better to use.
My opponents usually bring MEQ and sometimes a horde army, but very few if any dreadnoughts in their MEQ army list.
Also if this question has already been answered sorry for repeating it and if it has if you could send me the link that would great. Thanks

Personal suggestion here, but I really like to switch the combi between the champion and the squad.

Meaning that in a plasma squad, I like to give the champion a cobi-flamer of melta so I have a different shot. It gives you a layer of opportunism. Ork boys got tossed out of a trukk nearby? Serve them a flaming template from your melta plague squad. Monstrous creature straying too close to your melta squad? A combi-plasma can double your output of AP2 death for very important turn.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Yeah I do like the idea and i had it set that way, but one guy told me different and to change it. That happened when I put out my army list awhile back. Though I can also see his point on not making them so multi role that they can not do their main job. Though I agree with you, but I'm going to go combi-melta/plasma swap do to the fact that most of my opponents go with MEQ.

I would just keep it to the plague knife and maybe melts bombs. For the cost of the fist and combination weapons you can almost afford another 5 man squad.

That is a point, but I'm running Typhus in my army so I have big unit of zombies which fills out my troop choice. Also just so there is not any confusion it was either keep the powerfist or go with the power axe and melta bombs.

I'd honestly drop power fist for axe and melta.

That is what I'm probably going to do. So here is the updated units.

Plague Marines x7- Plasma Guns x2, PC w/ Combi- melta, power axe, melta bombs= 228pts

Plague Marines x7- melta guns x2, PC w/ Combi- plasma, power axe, melta bombs = 218pts

Plague Marines x7- Plasma Guns x2, PC w/ Combi- melta, power axe, melta bombs= 228pts

Yea I'd go with the axe, simply because you get an extra attack, and melta bombs are excellent if you have the points.

I would do 2 of 7 until you get more models. Just because if I'm not mistaken plague marines dont have the fearless I love with my zerkers. so easier to make squads of 5 turn and run. Plus you will be offering more kill points with smaller squads.

Plague Marines (and all cult marines) are Fearless.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I think the point costs of champions ramp up way too quickly. Combi/PW/meltabomb or combi/PF are both huge investments in what's ultimately a very vulnerable character. I'd go one of four ways: combi-weapon, axe, meltabomb, or naked. No combination thereof unless you've got extra points coming out your ears. Otherwise I'd rather spend on scoring bodies: more Plaguemarines, more Zombies, etc.

I agree that it is a point sink in a PC, though I wouldn't say that he is that vulnerable of a charater having a toughness 5 and FNP making him and the squad a hard nut to crack. The way I built my army list I do have the points to put those items into them. Though if seeing my army list would help I would be more than happy to post it.

That probably would help to spot if there are any weaknesses or if this is actually perfectly suited.
