with my samurai ork armies I've been using the same models for similar units in the multiple army lists, but recently I had the idea to customize the boyz in each army to match the theme of the army:

the one on the left is the basic design I've been using, compared to the first variant:

this is the airborne variant, he lacks the helmet the basic version has, and has an additional backpack. I have 6 lists for my samurai orks, and only 2 variants done so far.
what I need is some help figuring out what each of the variants should look like. I've broken the gear down into "slots" to make it easier to describe the changes, here's the slots for the basic version:
Head: samurai helmet
shoulders: pads for those with heavy armor
back: none
arms: none
legs: thigh armor
feet: no modification

the six lists are:
foot slog: a group of bandits specializing in ambush in mountainous terrain.
mech vehicles: the salvage crew, sent out to salvage scrap for the meks
battlewagon: an armored company specializing in rapid assault and taking ground.
airborne: the special forces of my samurai orks, they fly behind enemy lines and eliminate key targets.
speed freaks: the recon division, their bike races also serve as scouting missions.
dreads: the mechanized infantry, while slower than the armored company, they are much more durable.

also if anyone has any military experience and knows what each of these types of units loadout would be, that would be quite helpful. I can take the real military loadout and apply it to my orks with some samurai looking accessories.

My Cold War NATO IG, love to know what you think
