Im just wondering about the community's veiw on adding a DLord to everyones favorite Deathmarks + DespairTek for some combat ability, a 4+ Res roll, and (of course) re-rolling the 1s that evade HfH

Complete overkill in my opinion.
You're starting to put way to many points for that single purpose squad at that point, and the Dlord could be put to much more effective use elsewhere. Best to keep the Death and Despair Combo cheap, since it is a disposable unit after all.

the Dlord makes it an expensive proposition. It also only makes it slightly more deadly. PE doesn't help the flamer hit, as flamers autohit.
the Dlord adds some combat emph mainly but not enough. This will get a devastating shooting phase off but then likely get crushed in CC. The same thing as usually happens but now the unit is a lot more expensive.

Thats what Im trying to avoid. I can see this working wonders against the likes of say a unit of Paladins, as the sheer numbers of saves forced on the unit is brutal, and the Invuns from the Flamer/Rending will help as well.

but for the cost of a destroyer lord, you could have another unit of deathmarks and tech. This will do far more damage than 1 unit+ dlord and if going after a uber deathstar then the star can only shoot and charge one of them(if you position correctly) so the other will likely get another round of shooting.

true enough, but I think that having a full unit of 10 Marks+Tek+DLord that hop around the backfield of any army will be a significant destraction from your main force, which should give you more than enough time to level the rest of anything and everything your opponant has on the table.

but deathmarks also only have a 4+ save meaning they die quickly, even with the orb. Unless you have a Dlord up front tanking all the shots(which can be hard if you are in the backfield) those guys are going to die quickly. Even with him up there the unit is majority T4 and will wither to any real fire. When it comes to combat the MSS dlord isnt enough to save a abysmal CC unit like deathmarks. Also a full unit of 10 + Tech + Dlord costs a ton. Well beyond distraction unit level.
It might be fun, try it and enjoy. But I doubt it is going to really press most people.

Having run a "Triple D" squad once (Death, Despair, Destroy), and having been banned from using it again by my friends, I can tell you, yes, it is disgustingly over powered... but unnecessarily over powered.
I mean, unless you're getting in some pissing match to see whose deathstar is the killiest, there is no need to ever field it, as there are better, more cost effective ways to dealing with things.
