Wondering if there are any 40k scale vehicles which would be acceptable proxies for guard vehicles.

While I really can't help with aircraft, here's a zhengdefu 1/48 M2 Bradley I turned into a hellhound:

Aircraft will be a tad tricky

Plenty of 1/48 kits, though many of them will be a bit big (for example a hind or an osprey). I suppose a huey with some lascannons strapped to the side could suffice

My go to place for scale kits

keep your eyes open for bulk retailers. Check the ads in the upper right corner of this website for your nearest dealer, might be in your area... you can usually get up to a 30% discount.

Look around for scale models, and miolitary websites. IF you find a scale model that looks sexy, check out the military specifications, and then take the size, scale it down and trace it out. I think a HIND makes one heck of a vendetta.

Try puppets war for your airbus. It's either in the works now or was just/is about to be released.

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from.

If 1:48 is too big, you could always try 1:72. You would need to redo doors/hatches to get them more in scale but the basic body/wings/engines could give a good starting point. A 1:72 scale C-119 will set you back less that $20 for example.

Having said that, if you shop around you can get a 1:48 A-10 and a 1:48 AH-64 for less than $40 for the pair, and that ought to allow you to build a mean flyer....
