Just picked up a bottle of ace harware white primer ($3.50 wooooo!) but im a bit concerned with my technique. I sprayed it from about 8" (as it said on the bottle, usually its a bit farther but my first burst was showing some air-drying so i got closer). The issue is that It's not white. The flat areas like the shoulderpads are a nice white, but the crevices are more of a lightened grey as less paint hit them. I did that to prevent globbing up details on the more exposed areas. Did I do good, or should I have been more liberal with the can?

Sorry no pics, my camera is balls

There's no need to saturate your miniature when priming. As long as you wash the fig properly, crevices and all, a spritz with a good primer will give paint enough bite.

I'd say you got it about right.

This is the technique Automaton uses, so I can't take any credit for it.

Ok, great. My marine test subject turned out with more detail than even priming using gesso, which from what I've heard is supposed to be the thinnest after drying.

So I guess the verdict holds true that the cheaper the primer, the better!
