So I stumbled upon Mantic's Marauders (http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Warpath/Marauders/Vehicles/Product/Marauder-Bull-Quad.html), and I think these things will make great 40k orks. I mean lets face it, all orks are similar. These are basically the conversions you can make out of these guys:

1) Warbuggies = (http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Warpath/Marauders/Vehicles/Product/Marauder-Raptor-1-Vehicle.html) --- (http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Warpath/Marauders/Vehicles/Product/Marauder-Raptor-1-Vehicle.html). These things look exactly how a buggy should look like, and the current gw I find more unattractive and expensive than these ones. Left unconverted or mildly converted I think these things would make great buggies.
2) Trukks = (http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Warpath/Marauders/Vehicles/Product/Marauder-Bull-Quad.html) --- (http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Warpath/Marauders/Vehicles/Product/Marauder-Bull.html). These things are suppose to be the APCs of the marauders and personally, I don't really like them. But I guess someone good could make them into a really nice looking trukk.
3) Boyz/Hard boyz/ Cyborg Boyz = (http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Warpath/Marauders/Infantry/Product/Marauder-Grunts-Section-10-Figures.html) These guys look more heavily armoured than boyz and carry really weird weapons compared to boyz, but I think they'd make great boyz if you had some head and arm swaps. They'd probably fit better as cyborg boyz or hard boyz I reckon.
4) Boss = http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Warpath/Marauders/Heroes/Product/Marauder-Warlord.html Personally, I don't like it. It doesn't look very orky. Probably need alot of stuff added to it to make it boss material, and you can but it onto a nob for better results.

So yeah, thats the gist of it. I'd like to know if you would consider the following and talk about how you would go around converting it. Spread around ideas and such.

I've heard that mantic orks aren't quite as ape-like as GW Orks so they don't mix & match real well. They're more like true-scale, much like Elysians to cadians.

I dunno, I have NEVER been a fan of Mantic models and these just look cheap and flimsy to the extreme.

I'd rather just use GW Orks and convert using bits, plasticard and greenstuff!

These models do look pretty un-ork-like, the only thing I like about it are the buggy conversions. I'll probably get 1 of those marauder raptors or something and convert it into a buggy first. If I like it, ill get more, if I don't, meh.

The Raptor to buggy conversion is the only thing there that I think will really work. The Bull is a Raptor with an upgrade sprue for the extended cab - it will end up rather weedy compared to a trukk (extrapolating from the picture and my unassembled Raptor). Grunts are more ape-like in visage than GW Orks, but definitely not in build. They're about Nob height, actually, yet no wider than a Boy at the shoulders. They can potentially work on their own, but they lack the size distinction between ranks, a la GW Boys/Nobs/Bosses, which makes them difficult to use across the board and, as mentioned, the scale and aesthetic doesn't lend itself to mixing and matching with GW kits. Actually, the Mantic boss may be noticeably larger than the grunts - I've never seen any scale comparisons.

Got some coming in the mail - will do comparison shots when they get here. I do know from comparing Mantic's corporation troops to GW figures, there is a difference in look. The Mantic figures are actually in scale, rather than the mish mosh of scales in one figure from GW.
