I was looking at this thread, and it brings to mind a different issue with the specialty 40K source book costs. For instance, I like the look of the Ork Kill Krusha Tank. How do I find out it's capabilities? Once I find out what book it is in, I buy the book, and then find out it is an Apocalypse Super Heavy vehicle that sucks, and no other entries in the source book interest me. 75 bucks for 100 sheets of waxy toilet paper. I don't like to gamble with my money like that.

I personally don't mind the price of the GW Rulebook and Codices. If their product wasn't worth buying, then people wouldn't pay these prices for them. I just don't like not being able to check out the shrink wrapped Imperial Armour and Forge World type books before I drop that much money on them. Most of the Army Codices are not shrink wrapped and can be perused before purchase, or even owned by fellow players. Other than the hit or miss option of asking here (in which case elitists flag you for asking for rules info), how does one find out what the books contain what FOC and Model entries? Indices, tables of contents, lists of unit entries, etc? Am I just missing something on the Forge World website?

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

The last 3 FW books have the table of contents on the preview page for that book. I hope this is a trend they continue for the very reason you mentioned.

For example, Imperial Armor 1 second edition:

Also, people have asked "What book is ___ in" and gotten replies fairly quickly. The threads get locked when people ask How many points does it cost, what are the weapon options (and points for each) and so on.

Again, it's all in what you ask for. It's perfectly OK to ask What book is the Ork Kill Krusha Tank in and is it a superheavy? Does it have transport capacity? That's all general information, anyway.

Another way to find out what book something is in is this thread at the Bolter and Chainsword Nearly every unit from every IA book is listed.

Thank you for the list and the info on the preview pages! This might help me start to figure things out.

I must say I am a gamer as well as a model enthusiast. I have been told I have one of the best Snikrot models that many players have ever seen. But if I didn't have him before 6th Edition came out, I would have spent the $22.25 that he costs on models I would use. What I'm getting at is I like to know if I even want to field a model before I pay 45 Pounds for the source book! How can I find that out without breaking the tenets of this forum? And it is frustrating when the elitists who apparently have more money to spend on this than I do are rude and condescending.
