Does anyone recall the void whale on pg 162 of 5th ed? It stray of course and ate a ork space fleet. Im just thinking it would be kewl to have one in Apoc games like, everything verse that with some ridiculous stats. And it could be like a vortex grenade it marneus Calgar and peeps are like but I have a 4+ invulnerable save and eternal warrior. I don't care a whale just ate you and that's that. I think that would be something fun to have in a gam

You fool me once I'm mad.

I'll be the first to admit that I have made some stinker threads in my short time on Dakka, but this sabre guy is off the chain... Look at some of the garbage he has spewed forth over the last week... A little brutal I know, but it's the only way he'll learn!

The void whale is the size of a planet. It ate an entire space fleet. It can't be in Apoc, because quite simply it will dwarf even Imperator Titan (which, requires your 7 foot friend to proxy for you) which is already near impossible to get.

Sure, it would be kinda cool to see, but....it's just not possible...maybe something for BFG, where the size could be emulated, but not even in Apoc.

Those big replica 1:1 scale blue whales at museums could probably be to scale in BFG.

Each round you roll two dice. If snake eyes, a Void Whale shows up, eats everything and it's a draw.

Alternatively you can figure out a way so that one of the players pays points for this and includes the Void Whale in his/her army list, and thus has the advantage in some way when the snake eyes are rolled.

To take a Void Whale as a model is a no go, but to use it as some sort of special scenario rule or whatever could work.

Do you have a spare country in your backyard to use as your table?

No?

Then you can't accurately put a Void Whale in the game, lol.

A Void Whale is twelve thousand miles long. IIRC Earth isn't actually that wide.

You know, you could simply use the Void Whale as terrain and let your armies fight in it.

The Space Wolves did it.

Maybe a baby Void Whale.

I like the idea of fighting a massive Apoc Battle on its back - the survivors of the aforementioned space fleet snack.

This made me laugh pretty hard. How many points worth of normal BFG ships would it take to bring down that beast? A million? 10 million?

Order of magnitude too small unfortunately....Scale of BFG is about 60 000:1. A very large Blue whale of 32 metres long would be around 1900 kilometres long in BFG scale. You need a model about 320 metres long to represent Void whale in BFG.

Is a void whale at all related to a warp leviathan? Lexicanum seems to say that it's born of the warp, yet talks about it as if its a creature of flesh and blood, living in our material universe...while in description it sounds quite a bit like the leviathans the sail the currents of the warp.

So what's the deal with it? Gargantuan daemonic entity, or gargantuan living organism?.....or both?

There are other things beyond daemons in the warp, there are actual beings in it surprisingly. Which the Void Whale happens to be, a giant creature born of the warp, with no affiliation with anything. (With the exception of the 40k Ahab, His spear will drill through the warp itself to find the white void whale!)

A void whale could be used in BFG as a natural hazard.

Nah, a Warp Leviathan is not nearly as large as a Void Whale.

What would happen if a hive fleet managed to leech on to the back of a void whale and then consume all of its bio mass, would we see an unstoppable hive fleet, of just a very fat one?

I read that one appeared near the Tyranid homeworld and it became the first hive ship.

Where did you read this?

It was some old Dakka thread from years ago in the background section. Here's the post in question.

 HiddenPower wrote:
Wasnt there a description in a WD a long time ago when WD was worth reading that theorized about the origins of Tyranids?

IIRC when one of the void whales came close to the original tyranid home world it was taken control thus creating the first hiveship.

I dont know if this was from a WD or not i think it is though so ........yeah....

Although after reading it again, I wouldn't consider being wrong to be out of the realm of possibility.
