As you know, some chapters' Chapter Masters are not listed in the lore. As such, I was wondering:

I would like to use the Codex: Blood Angels for the successor chapter Knights of Blood. However, I wanted to utilize a chapter master. The Knights of Blood have no mention of a chapter master, which means I could make my own.

However, would this mean that I would have to use the standard Space Marine codex? As the Blood Angels codex only lists Gabriel Seth...

You may do whatever you wish with your own models.

What I'm asking is, is that if I use a Chapter Master for my Knights of Blood, does this force me to use Codex Space Marines?

No one is forcing you to use any specific codex. Which one would *you* think you should use?

We're obviously not communicating well here.

I want to use the Blood Angels codex for certain vehicles and benefits, such as Sanguinary Guard, Baal Predator, Furioso, etc.

But, I also want a Chapter Master for my successor Chapter. I was wondering that if I use the Blood Angels codex, I wouldn't /rules/ wise be allowed to field a Chapter Master, and instead have to use a Captain for my HQ.

So you are asking if you run a blood angels army, but use an option from Codex: Space Marines as your HQ choice?

No, as if you are using Codex: Blood Angels, you can only select units from Codex: Blood Angels.

You can get around this problem by bringing an allied detachment from Codex: Space Marines in order to use a chapter master (although they won't have any blood angels specific rules such as red thirst), or by simply using some other choice from the codex as your chapter master (I find it hard to believe that there is non-librarian/non-chaplain HQ in the codex). Alternatively, you could just use the rules for one of the special characters in the BA codex as your chapter master (for example, as a DA player who uses a custom chapter, I have a 'counts as' Belial for my master of the Deathwing. He has the same stats, weapons, options, and price as Belial, the only thing that is different is his model and his name. No player will have an issue with you making 'counts as' characters, as long as they are legal for use in your codex.

Honestly, the Chapter Master in C:SM is terrible. Why not try building off of the C:BA Captain?
