Just wondering, if you get the banner of fortitude, what is the point of getting an apothecary? You get FNP in addition to a 12" bubble that gives it correct?

Theoretically: so that command squad has FNP even if standard bearer is dead.

Practically: makes no sense;

Especially fun in Deathwing Command Squad, where Apothecary is extremely expensive (that is not significantly cheaper than standard; running standard instead of apothecary pays off with just one additional Deathwing squad.

But the same thing goes if the apothecary dies too.

Also remember that unlike your banner guy the apothecary is a character, so you can look out sir! any hits your opponent tries to allocate to him, something you can't do with the banner...

Your Apothecary can also be singled out in challenges. Being a character goes both ways, although to be fair if you in a situation where the Apothecary has to either accept or deny the challenge, you have probably already lost the squad.

Thanks for the responses. Also, how would you load these boys out?

Depends on the way you want to run them. They have the potential to be a strong melee unit, with the exception of being limited to 5 men.

Assuming you don't take Azrael (for the 4++ across the squad). I would consider a banner + apothercary & champion, then give 2 of them storm shields to stand up the front and absorb anything ap 3 or better with a couple power weapons, but the points build up quick.

Alternatively run a drop pod and combi weapons or plasmas like a worse version of sternguard, but if you use company vets you can have 10 (sternguard are miles better for 2point difference per model but unless you want to ally them you don't have much choice).

Personally, if I take this squad it's with the IC running a power field generator and the banner of devastation, check out the thread here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/502678.page to see more details

I think the best way to run them is as 5 man squads, with meltaguns, combi meltas and multimelta and drop pod them in someone's face. Doesn't break the bank and brings some good firepower to bear.
