Space Marine Scout with Sniper Rifle

Okay guys I need some feed back. Today I went to get an Libby for my vanilla marines but the store was out of them so I bought a command squad and storm talon instead. Was this a wise choice? I know apothecarys give FnP. Any input is welcome. Thanks

Give them all (except the apoth since you cant) plasmaguns. Put a presciened libby in with them and put that all in a drop pod. Have fun wiping out MCs or entire squads of TEQ before they can do anything...

I think command squads, like the captain who leads them, are a little too expensive and unfocused. But they do look very cool. In my humble, and biased, opinion I think most marine players should work to build a full battle company, It's a nice collection to have, and you can make all sorts of lists once you have a solid core of an army. And you need your captain and command squad standing at the front.

From a long term POV, captains were much better in previous editions, and might be the best HQ pick in later ones, things change.

The big problem with the command squad is what gear to give them. It needs to be enough to get the job done, but not so much that they become a point sink. It's a hard balance to find.

ive been wondering how a command squad, with a captain, or possibly a chaplain would do all on bikes and equiped with power weapons

You might want to take a look at the new FAQ's because you absolutely can now.
Edit: just for ease "Q: Blessings are manifested ‘at the start of the Psyker’s Movement phase’ – does this mean they happen simultaneously with Reserves rolls, Outflanking rolls etc and if so which is resolved first? (p68) A: They do occur simultaneously – as such, the player whose turn it is decides in what order these things occur as per page 9 of the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook."

OP Personally I think you made a fine choice with the command squad. They are a great special weapon delivery system; 4 plasma guns, 2 storm shield(optional), and a drop pod are only 240 points(210 without SS's)

Command squads are best used by players who know what their job is going to be on the field.

I recommend you kit them out 1 of 2 ways, 4 plasma guns on bikes or with some killy melee weapons, never a stormshield though.

My general melee setup is 6 lightning claws and a champion. Comes in just above the points cost of a landraider. Simply attach your IC and go killing.

I typically use the 3Plasma Guns with an Apothecary and a Champion. I usually place them in a central high location to act as a “Sniper” Unit. Usually the Champion is enough to discourage most non Assault units off my back. It has worked well in the past that way.
