I am really wondering if I am doing OK. I have been painting for a few years, BUT I have never painted a special character. My regular Blood angels will eventually get posted, BUT I am looking for a bit of feedback. Did I do an OK job on this figure.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I will be adding more than just Astorath now....

Definitely OK. Nice work on the face and you still have good details on the armor ridges. I'm not sure if that's yellow or gold on the wing and armor edges.

It is gold, and thanks for the compliment on the face. I have been trying very hard to get the details down. Here is another view of him.........

I don't have the pic yet, but I did paint the skull in the middle.

the gold color is far too bright...it looks like a pastel yellow in these pictures.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix that?

You could try to use a wash. I would try it on a test model first and see what wash works best with that gold. I've used GW Nuln Oil wash on some of my golds and I like it, but it's personal taste.

The only thing I can think of is that it lacks a bit of contrast. I think a wash of nuln oil on the gold and red parts would fix that. Enough to sink into the cracks (especially on the red) and bring out those lines. Then if you think it's too dark, you can go over the very tops of the lines with the same red you used to paint them originally, which will really bring out the tops of the ridges but leave the crevices reasonably dark.

Otherwise, the face looks really good as do the scrolls.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I am working on trying to fix the color a bit. I will put up a couple new photos this week when I complete the paint

OK, here is an updated version, let me know, I tried to lessen the harshness of the gold, and this one has the skull colored as well. I look forward to your feedback.

I think it's looking good but if possible could you throw up a few more pics from different angles and in better lighting? It's a bit hard to make out the model because the lighting is very dim here.

What I generally do is position my fluorescent desk lamp as directly above the model as possible so that there is plenty of light and my camera doesn't need to use its flash. I also set the camera on Macro setting, the one that looks like a little flower.

Example:
Spoiler:
This is with lighting from above and a little bit to the front of the model. By no means the best photo but it helps to bring out a bit of the detail. Fluoro does make the colours look a bit washed out. A daylight bulb is better if you can get one, but my desk lamp only fits a fluoro at the moment:

Yep, I agree. Much better with the better lighting and a big improvement over the first shots.

The gold is still a bit too bright and a bit yellow but it's not a big deal. I like the dirty look of the scrolls and the lightning effects on the axe blade, they both look quite nice.

My Sanguinar, this one took me a while, as figuring out how to paint him and make him look almost unique was a real pain.

I am not too happy with the sword, so any suggestions for making it a bit more dynamic would be great.

Let me know what you think. I will be adding a few more of my marines a bit later.

I like the work so far. Maybe try a wash after you apply your base coat to pull out some detail, but that's just a suggestion. The red eyes are interesting on all the models.

One thing you can do is paint the purity seals. Green on the circle part and do the paper part like you did the scroll work on Astorath. It will help break up the red.

Red power weapons, I can't help. I tried a couple and never could get them the way I wanted them. There are some good tutorials out there on youtube and miniwargaming that can help with it.

Keep up the good work!
