I'm running a master of the forge with servitors because I like the models. He will have a conversion beamer. My question is, should 2 of the 4 servitors with him have heavy bolters or not? It's 40 points for 2 of them, and I'm not sure whether that's good or not.
Also, if anyone has a good MotF + servitors build that doesn't utilize a conversion beamer, please feel free to share. Thanks!

You will be hard pressed to find someone to advocate servitors. Every time I look at them, I figure I'd be better off attaching the MotF to a scout squad.
That being said, go for it. A pair of HBs will increase his damage output vs light targets for not a whole lot of points. Keep the MotF out front to take advantage of his 2+, but don't be afraid to look out sir if someone aims a lascannon at you.

I'd say the servitors are only really useful for LOS ablation wounds.
They are BS2 so not realy worth puting points into heavier weapons.
However, if you give him a conversion beamer and a bike, he'll be 2+ with T5.
Stick him in cover and pop a few servitors around him and you've got a nasty firebase with survivability.
Plus, once he's LOS'd the servitors he can just ride off on the bike to cause more havoc and still get the jink save

* BS 3. I've heard the bike idea a lot, and while it seems effective, it also seems a bit silly to me...anyway, thanks for the help guys! I've decided that, despite the price, I'm probably best off taking the heavy bolters so they aren't just ablative wounds.

I've been using a Master of the Forge without any servitors.
I buy a rhino with 5 tacticals, join the MoF on them and keep everyone inside, with the MoF firing his conversion beamer out of the fire point.
The rhino is deployed in cover behind a ruin bosted by the MoF. So we have a warlord properly protected inside an AV 11 with cover save 3+ while still being able to fire his gun.
I sometimes use a full tactical squad with the rhino so to get a free missile launcher, and then deploy it as combat squads, with the ML inside the rhino with the MoF, shooting through the fire points as well.
This leaves me with 5 marines out in the open to get shot, which I don't like, though, even in 6° edition's nerfed tanks.

You can easily get a few bodyguard servitors for your master of the forge to help keep him alive, but don't add guns.
The reason being is that the servitors won't be shooting at the same targets as your conversion beamer.
Why waste points on guns when you're going to be firing a 42 inch + gun the whole time if possible?

He is an awesome model. Too bad I never find room for him. I gave his Servitors to my Chappy.

I bought a MotF 5 years ago because I had a gift certificate & I loved the model. My hope was that one day it would be worth it to run them as a small Dev sqd. That has never happened. For 135 points you get servitors with 4 hvy bolters. For 15 points more you can get a 5 man dev sqd with 4 hvy bolters, msl launcher or MM. It doesn't have to be awesome, just decent. Unfortuanetly its never been close, so it just gathers dust.
If you want to use it just for fun, good on ya. Otherwise my friend, you can't polish a turd.

This thread has reminded me to finish off my idea for MOTF on bike, last week I finished off my techmarine on bike for DA lists but luckly I had a spare side cart from attack bike, bit of chopping up later I am left with this
Needs a few bits doing to it but for a 15 min job with what I had next to me (the RW upgrade sprue, which was sitting next to my bed luckly had everything I would have wanted!)

Played my first game with my marines today. The conversion beamer killed exactly one scout, but the servitors were very very useful actually! They killed a Librarian, a few scouts, and took a hull point off a Stormtalon. Not bad for a 95 point unit

I played against a Grey Knight who ran 3 Plasma Cannon servitors and those three servitors where one of his best 3 units without doubt. Granted, he had prescience on them, but even without it they were an MVP unit for him.
I'd love to see how yours do against a range of enemies, I love the models and I love the fluff for them.
