Guard Heavy Weapon Crewman
|
Hello everyone-
So I recently bought the imperial guard battleforce, and want to get more out of it. To that end I would like to use the spare heavy/ special weapons that are supplied.
Particularly I am concerned with the heavy weapons. So I was thinking I would buy a pack or two of the 60mm (heavy weapons) bases, and use the spare heavy weapons along with some modeling putty to make a stand/ sandbags that it could sit on (as opposed to the default model of a tripod).
As for the men to man the heavy weapons, I was considering buying some of the 5 man packs (they are much cheaper than 10 man squads) and using them. What do you think of that? Is it bad that they would be standing up instead of kneeling? I was thinking for line of sight purposes it shouldn't matter since you go from the weapon's barrel (right?)
And how hard is it to add special weapons (i.e. GL, flamer) to the people from the 5 man packs?
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thank you!

Dont bother with the 5 man squads, the pack is junk. If your interested in more quality models go with the 10 man squads.
As for the heavy weapons the best bet is to magnetize your weapon tripods so you can switch between bolters, lascannons and such. (Works great did it for my personal armry) That way you dont end up with 12 heavy weapons squads... like I did in my less experienced days.
And going back to the 10 man squads, your going to want meltas and plasmas, the more you use IG the more you will understand. But buying those models can become very expensive.. so here is a great solution
http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=60_104&product_id=223
Simply use a man from the 10 squad pack, cut off the las gun replace it with the melta and BOOM done.

I used the 5 man squads, if you don't mind one or two of your heavy weapon troopers to stand upright they are a cheap way to increase your numbers.
i think giving special weapons to these model will be impractical at least.
i would reccommend to calculate the number of possible special before assembling the guys of the battleforce and use the toycadians to replenish the squads

Gotta agree with eyebone. Don't bother with the 5 man snap together kit. It just ain't worth it unless you want totally monopose guardsmen.
A note on the heavy weapons tripods. I don't think you should even need to magnetize them. They don't require gluing in the first place since they have a pin that holds them together.

So in regards to this I actually would like to have a bunch more heavy weapons teams (maybe not 12, but I don't think having 6-9 would be out of the question (2 3 weapon squads, plus a couple in vet squads / CCS)
Ya dig?

You get 6 hw guard per pack, so I would say that you only put one of them maximum per base. If you are not concerned about the poses, use the 5 pack. If you are, use the 10 man pack, and plus, if you use the 10 man pack you can swap the arms for spares from the hw team.

You know now that I think about it that makes sense since it is one model with 2 wounds, not 2 separate models
