Warhammer 40,000 has a rich history and a vast collection of models to go with it. Of all the games you have played or witnessed what was the coolest you've ever seen?

The coolest game I've ever seen was Praetorian Guard Imperial Guard Vs Tallarn Desert Raiders imperial guard. The board was set up to look like the early 1900's in Egypt. The players even agreed to use strictly Infantry and used modified rules for the artillery pieces.

Once played a D-Day table. It was made by a friend who had a terrain making business back in the day. Beautiful board.

I was orks with chaos allies and there were waves of Imperial landings. Still remember this because it was so much fun.

Special rules were, defenders had half the points as attackers. We had two special artillery rounds, like Basilisk shots per turn. No vehicles allowed in the first turn, the first 18 inches of the board or so was difficult ground (sand and tide). if there imperials were still stuck on the beach by turn four (?), they had to scavenge for ammo before being able to shoot (each unit separately)

They rolled a D100 for every landing craft and like in a 90+ or so they were sunk.

So it went really well for me the first wave, the poor space marine player rolled 90+ twice. The remaining forces got bogged down on the beach. Really brutal. By the time he got close to the trenches, my orks poured out and knocked them back. 2nd wave came on and had little much to hurt us with until a ten man assault squad landed.

They shot up the right flank, landed in the trenches and hacked their way down the trenches, forcing my orks from the table.

Great game, so much fun. I enjoy story games above all.

Kids were off school due to summer holidays and a fella I know had negotiated with the school to allow him the use of their sports hall for a week. What do you do with an enormous empty space and many, many free hours...?

A 75,000 point Apocalypse game, that's what.

Nowhere near the world record, but still pretty darn impressive to witness.
