Hey everyone. So I am back to 40k, been out since 3rd edition. I have recently stripped both my Ork and Space Marine armies, and of course been collecting a bit of both over the years. I've finally sat down and started painting them again. I came across some painting tutorials and discovered how great washes are, so I haver to say that I really enjoy painting again.

Seems like some simple techniques and washes can make a bad painter better. I am going for table top quality and I am very pleased with how these have turned out. I'm still learning new techniques and I am open to suggestions.

I think I have around 3000 to 4000 pts of Orks, but I'm in the process of trying to sort out my really old models. Also I am in love with most of the new Ork line, so I'm slowly collecting more.

So I guess I should've listed what I'm building:

HQ:

Warboss
Big Mek

Troops:

20 Slugga Boyz
20 Slugga Boyz
20 Shoota Boyz
12 Slugga Boyz in a trukk
12 Slugga Boyz in a trukk

Elites:
8 Nobz with various weapons
10 Kommandos
8 Lootas

Heavy Support:
3 Killa Kanz
3 Killa Kanz
Deff Dread
Battle wagon
Looted wagon
Looted wagon

Fast Attack:
3 Deff koptas
15 Stormboyz (using old madboyz models)
3 Buggies

This is just a list of what I'll have, not a Force Org Chart.

Whaddya think:

Warboss Gorgrimm 'Eadsplitta:

I still need to base him a little better and do some touch ups. This was my first model that I used washes on ( I think).

Nob with the Waaaagh! banner and a powerklaw:

I've almost finished my Deff Dread:

I've got some weathering to do and the base needs something really cool. I've tried to do a weathered bronze-ish look with a turquoise wash.

I know that this thing is going to get blown away quickly in game, but man I love this model. I just don't care.

I think it's from the Ork Nobz box, just one of the heads. I ordered about eight box sets at once so I'm not sure which, but I think it was the Nobz set.

I planned on a custom boss from the parts and that head, plust the iron gob bit screamed out to me that he'd be in charge.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So I still have some older models, I even have some 2nd edition spikey plastic Goffs that have seen waaaaay too much action. I did find a way with the new ork boy arms, to breathe a little life back in my old pewters ladz.

This one took a little finagling, but in the end it fit pretty well. I have about twenty or thirty metal models thatwill work with the arms. I think I have about another thirty that I haven't test with the new arms, but might not work since they are bigger than the shoulders of the old guys.:

Well, been a long long time since I've been back here.

I've had a lot going on outside army collecting for a while, then I screwed up a bit of models trying things out, and well - the whole force went into the purple vats of Superclean.

So! I've taken this as a good time to learn some better techniques, get some better tools, and begin anew. I've left the beginning of the blog up since it's where I started, but some of the picts are gone.

The first Warboss Gorgrimm suffered a horrendous accident with weathering techniques. So I had to start over, then I realized that the nob model I was using was just too small for a warboss.

So here's the new Gorgrimm:

Side shot:

Another side:

Got more of the Waaagh coming.

Thanks,

Gorgrimm

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I've also been able to finish up my Deff dread, Gargantog, who is supposed to be smashing his way through a rusty ole' fence:

Another:

And yet another:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Wanted to add another pic of Gorgrimm, Gargantog and a nob from the nob mob bodyguard I'm building:

Everyone in the nobz mob is going to match the yellow/black split face paint. I figure, well, it's yellow because they are Bad Moons, and yellow is bold and brazen just like Gork. The black is subdued and sneaky, full of low cunning like Mork. The face paint shows the duality of Ork.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So, since the restart I have most of the horde assembled. I'm working on WIP picts as I go along, but I do actually have some things finished.

So far the assembled Waaaagh! is as follows:

Warboss
Big Mek

Nobs mob (9)
Trukks (2)
Slugga Boys w/ Nob (21)
Shoota Boyz w/ Nob (21)

Lootas (12)
Kommandos w/ Nob (12)
Tankbustas w/ Nob (9)

Stormboys w/ Nob (12)
Deff Koptas (3)

Deff Dread
Battlewagon
Looted Wagon

Now out of this, I have finished painting:
Warboss
Deff Dread
Sluggaboys

*Sigh*

I still have unassembled:
Another battlewagon
Burna boys (12 or so)
Sluggaboys (50 or so of the 2nd addition spikey plastics, which I may or may not even get around to building this year)
Warbikes (7)
Mega nobs (5)
Megaboss( Ghazghkull)

I still plan on getting:
Killa kans (6)
Shokk attack gun
More deff koptas

So it seems like I've got quite the road ahead. L:uckily I've got enough started to get the blog rolling and add updates until I can get more done so it doesn't stymie another eight months

Anyway - Update:

Sluggaboys, I wanted to make them look mean, nasty, and barbaric, so I dabbled in some face paint - The Ghost Faced Boys:

Thanks and as always, C&C welcome! I can always use advice/tips.

Alright. I've got some updates here.

The thing I'm doing, and maybe I should've just mixed the two army blogs but I figured both armies deserved their own blog, I have marines and orks, and they are supposed to be fighting it out over the remnants of a battered Imperial city. So there will be some cross picts occasionally. First, action shots with some terrain I'm working on and my finished models:

Orks in the ruins of an imperial shrine:

Stomp stomp stomp:

Gargantog on the hunt:

Next the Ghost faced boys advancing through some almost finished ruins filled with a suspect looking green liquid:

So that ends the "action" shots for now. I have been working on several mobs, but here's the small update on the Nobs mob. I figure I might as well finish these bad boys since they will count as Troops with the Warboss.

They've been primed, and then hit all over with a dark brown wash. I'm using Sewer Water from Secret Weapon this time. I usually use Dark Sepia from Secret Weapon or Devlan Mud, but I wanted two things:

A) To test out the Sewer Water wash.

B) To make these guys darker than the rest of the army since they are nobs.

Next I'll paint all the skin bright yellow, to prep it for the Thraka wash stages.

These guys are going to have the yellow/black face paint like the warboss and his other nob. I think it'll really look good when the whole mob is finished. Anyway, as always C&C welcome.

Thanks for looking!

So, been a bit, but hey, holidays + work + school = low posts.

Anyway:

I have been working on about nine different things in me ork army, but I've only taken pictures of this guy:

Battlewagon.....let's call him... Rippadakka:

It's got a deff gun, two big shootas, and magnetized zzap gun that rotates. Oh! and all the powerclaws on the front = deffrolla! waaaagggh!

Fun!

Anyway, still work in progress. WIll hopefully stick to painting this guy nad have it finished.

Thanks for looking, C&C always welcome!

For my Ork yellow:

Well, I really do get distracted by shiny things. Between Christmas, birthday, and random gift cards I've acquired a grip of new toys. But I was rummaging through my bits box and came across one of my old Shokk Attack guns, in pieces. So after a quick gathering and assembly, I primed and painted most of this guy:

I'm not quite done with him, and it has been a long time since I dealt with a giant hunk of metal like this, but hey, he's still pretty cool and saves me 20-30 bucks.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also,. updated my battlewagon the other day:

Got metal drybrush done, first layer of red, fisrt part of the checks done. I think it's about halfway done. I'm really torn on painting this thing red. I've been a Bad Moons guy since second edition and really want to go yellow/black like hte rest of my army, but it is so orky to paint vehicles red. It's tough theming an army and then just saying the gork with it and slapping red open the wagons, but there is just a strong urge.

I just don't want to have the horrible, sparkly- fabulous color explosion of my previous ork hordes, where every mob was a different clan and color scheme.

Anyway here is my progress:

C&C welcome, thanks!

Thanks for all the comments guys. I've really been working on my painting skills and I think it's been paying off. Yeah yellow can be a pain, but it takes practice.

I just finished my term at college and now I am doing some updates. I just "finished" (well got some basing touchups to do) my 'Ardboys mob.

I've got more work to do on their trukk, which I haven't shown yet, but I really want to finish that battlewagon next. These were a pin to paint, but I really like how they came out.

The nob is named Thugga, he's Gorgrimm's right hand man.

Whew!

I'll be working on my battlewagon this week, got some kans to paint too. Everything will get put on hold though as soon as my parts for my meganobs come in. I've got a crazy idea to make some from parts.

So I have a mob of half finished shoota boys, man I wish I could get them done. I thought about posting WIP pictures, but I'll just finish them and the post.

As far as my updates, I made a lot of progress on the battle wagon. Got a lot of touch ups to do before weathering, which is my favorite stage. I am trying to get as mush yellow/black on it as possible without making it look like a paint factory mishap.

Anyway, here's more WIP shots, should hopefully be done in a week or two:

And another:

BTW, the yellow on this thing was painted with the new line of Citadel paints. I oicked up every yellow in the range except the wash/shade or whatever it's called now. The yellow came out beautiful. I'm going to have to mud it up to make it orky . I will be using it for my yellow space marines, really nice stuff.

Okay, here's the reason that I stopped work on my Shootas this weekend....

Custom Mega Nobs! or well Mega nob. I only have one done . This is my first attempt at working with plasticard, it took a buit to build out that power klaw, . The green stuff is liquid green stuff. I had never used it before, really like it. I figured I'd add some texture to the plasticard with it while I was filling in gaps.

I like how he came out, Can't wait to paint him up. It took a few hours and I have four more to do. I may need more bits...

Anyway, hope you like the updates, looking forward to finishing my core army. I have loads of elites, fast attack, and heavies to paint.

As always C&C welcome

UPDATE:

Got more finished on the MegaNob, I think he needs some more added to his base, it's a little too clean and also his skin is a little too clean as well.

I am liking how he came out so far though, only four more to go:

Thanks MrMerlin. It was fun to build and to paint. I have four more that I just finished building. I should be posting up the unpainted picts tomorrow.

I really enjoyed scratch building these nobs. My original plan was to have the nobs decked out in looted terminator armor. A quick note to anyone building they're own. Although I have a large space marine army, I didn't look at the size differences between them and picked up some termie parts. Wow they are so small compared to nobs. The backs work but I really wanted to hollow out the termie heads for the orks to wear as masks, but they were just too small. So FYI.

Okay. It took a bit to finish these up and I have found that I am a very slow painter, plus there were so many parts to these guys it took a bit to build.
So, MrMerlin, took your advice to add more to the legs. Great idea. I like .

I like how they came out.

I still need to work on my shoota boys, although I've been saying that for months. I've been seriously neglecting my Space Marines, so I'll have to hit some of them next. Anyway, here are my finished Meganobs

I know that a lot of people dislike megas, but they have saved many a game for me and still hold a place in my horde.
