Hello fellow dakkadakkaians! As many of you know I am currently constructing an Elysian Drop troops army following an Air Cav/Air Assault theme. However I have decided a little while ago to break my power armor ban and to put together a drop pod marine army as it is something that has always interested me. Now I have put together a list which can be found here:
Basically my question is this: Is a Sternguard heavy drop pod army still viable in this edition? And if so what are some example competitive army lists that work with this theme in mind? Thanks again guys!
19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.
I think it can be, it's definitely not an easy army to play but it has some real strengths that you can play to.
I don't think you can play them the way that most people play Sternguard i.e: putting all combi weapons on them and dropping them in the thick of things.
You need to keep them cheaper and use the pods to deploy them in the move advantageous areas to take objectives, give them cover and to make use of their special issue ammo.

Subject: Re:Pedro Sternguard Drop Pod list Viable?
i like my sternguard to have combat tactics, cause generally they are dropping into the thick of things, and the ability to not be around for melee is quite good.
I hope they're good, as I'll be using them a bit, too.
But, with Land Speed Storms, snipers and Tac Marines as support.
Without a way to pop special weapons and sergeants, you'll get smashed about in cc.
