Wow, I didn't even know it was coming. Interested to see what it will contain. Have been thinking about adding daemons to my CSM "bad guy" army for some more varied target practice.

No one will have the codex until March 2nd or so. You can keep units reviews and thoughts on hold till then.

When I first saw the pre-orders for the "limited edition" ones that have cases with specific gods, I thought you had to buy a different codex for each Chaos god and I was pissed. Then I noticed it was just a fancy cover thing, and I was much less angry hahaha. The cover looks really nice however.

Anyone know who the author is?

Phil Kelly = 40k Author

Matt Ward = Fantasy Author

I really like this release and I may actually start a Daemon army because of it.

Of course, I'll wait 2 weeks before deciding, as everything I'll want to know about the codex will be on the internet by the end of the second week.

They took the prince out of the heavy slot, and into the hq slot on the website. I don't know if that is official.; but I don't think princes are going to be be heavy any more. On that note, the changeling is also in hq, and not in troops.

Also , they do have psychic power cards, so i think they might be psykers rather then just shooting attacks.

sorry to ask a potentially dumb question, are you saying Ward wrote the new codex?

What do you want to bet Ward makes the Fantasy Daemons into the new Fantasy Daemons?

At least with Phil Kelly writing it, the codex should be good. Sure, the Space Wolves codex was awful, but that wasn't bad writing so much as ridiculously stupid source material.

Daemons were a fantasy release, so the codex tagged along with them, ignoring (and not effecting) the 40k release schedule. Either Tau or Eldar are next, sometime in the spring or summer.

Well, White Dwarf has spilled some beans;

40k now sees the return of Daemonic Instability.

Greater Daemon of Nurgle is T7.

Flamers can now be charged with impunity (Lysander assaulted a unit of 6 flamers and lived)

Screamers are now fodder before Tactical Terminators (four TT beat up 6 screamers in one turn of combat for no return casualties...)

Don't forget the horrible underpriced units, the overpriced trash, the must takes..

As well as the White Dwarf Update to CSM... With the overpriced trash, the must take unit (Heldrake), kinda his style really. Some things will be priced down, some changes will occur, but then he'll overprice the warp out of some things, remove options, and pick one or two units to become the "Big thing to take"

Flamers & Screamers like the rest of the army have almost certainly lost Eternal Warrior, thus making them sane again.

Flamers potentially losing out on Wall of Death makes me sad though...
I only ever used 9 of them in my Tzeentch lists unless I was playing over 2k, so I don't think I was ever being that huge a donkeycave. Hopefully their shooting attack is still just that - a shooting attack and not a psychic power.

So I'm curious, I am gonna start a Chaos Daemon army when the new codex comes out and I keep seeing that Daemonic Instability is back, could someone tell me what that is?

Daemonic Instability was a specific version of the old No Escape! rule from 5th edition - If you lose combat, instead of making a break test, you take a number of wounds equal to the amount you lost the combat by. Saves may be taken as normal.

It was in the first Codex: Daemons, was removed for the second Codex: Daemons, and appears to be back in the game for this, the third Codex: Daemons.
