Recently I decided to try building a playable Death Korps of Krieg army from scratch, conforming to the basic aesthetic and their alternate army list, as a good excuse to practice sculpting. As I ran out of green stuff before starting this, the models are made entirely with wire and polymer clay, and done entirely without reference images, as I don't have any internet at home.

Here's the Quartermaster, the earliest of the models I'm posting pictures of, as it was the first to turn out good.

Here's the next one, a Guardsman with a lasgun. I hadn't decided what the lasguns should look like by this point, so it's different from the later one, and what I'll be doing in the future.

First one with the newer lasgun design, though the belt's a bit too high on this one.

And a meltagunner, which I haven't painted yet, to show what they look like before I paint them.

And all four from the rear.

That ends the ones I've done so far, I'll have more to post as I get them done.

1. sculpting materials. please (GS or Polymer clay)
2. it looks abit too tall comapred to typical cadian. but if you want to defy GW and FW, do it. but make sure that the helmet has a flat tail like Germans do.

Hrm, certainly interesting, do you have any GW round bases? may help the look if your using them for 40k.

They're made from Sculpey, and they should be the same height as GW infantry models, but they're not as stocky, and their heads are more properly proportioned relative to the body. I don't have any Cadians to compare it to, only some Dark Eldar and the Daemonettes I kitbashed with a box of Wyches.

None to spare, but the bases, which are built with the model, are only about a millimeter off an inch, and considering that a fully scratchbuilt army is restricted to friendly games in the first place the irregularity shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I painted the meltagunner last night, so here's those pictures:

I also made another Guardsman with a lasgun, and took pictures of it at different stages along the way.
Spoiler:

The wireframe:

The initial structural work:

The same, next to the cut out piece that will become the trenchcoat:

The model after the coat piece has been attached and cut into the right shape:

The finished trenchcoat:

And then the finished model, after baking:

And the final, painted model:

Finished an initial draft of a platoon commander last night. Not entirely happy with the head, as I tried a different mask design and I'm not sure it really works.

I do like the dead Ultramarine he's standing on though. I think that part turned out pretty well, even if it looks a bit odd where it cuts off at the edge of the base.

Some of the proportions seem off, why don't you practise drawing them on paper first before sculpting? I really admire you for this as I know sculpting stuff from scratch is very hard, I'm currently doing something similar with my Steel Legion.

Do you have clay shapers? http://www.dickblick.com/products/colour-shaper-mini-sets/?wmcp=cj&wmcid=feeds&wmckw=04935-0019-4472&AID=10495307&PID=3797054&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dickblick.com%2Fproducts%2Fcolour-shaper-mini-sets%2F%3Fwmcp%3Dcj%26wmcid%3Dfeeds%26wmckw%3D04935-0019-4472&LINK=Dick+Blick+Catalog&CID=The+Painting+Corps[url]

They have definitely helped me to create folds and smooth things out.
