Hey guys.
I've been trying to teach myself some blending skills, and here is the result of my first attempt.
Does it look like blending is supposed to look? Does it look right?

Looks pretty good, now you just need a little wash to blend it together better, and you can do highlights and glaze it if you wish.

As an experiment for colour transition it's quite good. The purple seems prominent and there is noticeable colour jumps (only through the camera though, probably not visible with the eye).
You're on the right track.

This is a decent start. My suggestion is to use more vibrant colors, and start by putting down the brighter/lighter colors first. Dark colors are impossible to brighten... Light colors are very easy to darken.

I find that the color transition on your model is too quick. This can be fixed by brightening the blue at the very top. Take the time to begin the transition from the dark into the light, and just always remember to lay your bright color down first (or your weak color, yellows and whites are very easy to taint, while red likes to stay red.... But then it also depends on the pigment saturation, so... That depends on the paint you are using), and slowly keep adding the darker color as you work down. It will take a while to get to the point where you can start with exactly one color at one end and end with exactly the other color at the other end, that's fine. Just work on color transition, and don't worry about where you end up. This is decent work given its your first time

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from.

Transiiton to to fast for the different colours there would need to be more of a build up to make it work.
