I've been looking into starting Infinity for a while, and I'm thinking either Panoceania or Ariadna (or both!). I'll be aiming for a small force (so 150 points) to start and am looking for some list advice, mostly I'm picking models I like the look of then seeing what I can do with them.
For Panoceania, I was thinking of something like the following (critiques and advice welcome):
LT - ORC Troop - multi-rifle
Fusilier - combi-rifle
Fusilier - combi-rifle
Fusilier - combi-rifle
Fusilier - combi-rifle, hacking device
Machinist - combi-rifle
Nisse - multi-sniper rifle
Will this work? I thought that it puts a reasonable number of bodies on the table, with some specialists if I need them.
For Ariadna, I'm leaning more towards the French and Scots in terms of models I like. How viable is a mixed force rather than a sectorial one?
I had thought something like:
LT - Mormaer - T2 rifle, X-Visor
Cateran - T2 rifle
Moblot - HMG
Metro - rifle
Metro - rifle
Metro - rifle
Dozer - rifle
Again, 7 units and a mix of weapons. Is it a good idea to try to take an engineer/hacker, or are they scenario specific?

Usually unless you have REMs or TAGs in your list or something else that has an STR value instead of wounds you won't really use an engineer that much. They are very handy in the new Campaign Paradiso scenarios but in normal games you probably won't make full use of their skills. As one of your heavy hitters in both of your lists is also your Lt i'd drop the engineers for a doctor instead. Or swap it for another unit entirely. Other than that both of the lists look pretty good for starting out to get a grip of the rules.

A couple things, i can only offer advice on Ariadna as that is what i collect.
The AVA of Metros is only 2 unless you are running the MRRF Sectorial so that list is not legal. I would advise that you dont take the Dozer as you dont need it, as you said it is more of a scenario specific thing. As for the moblit HMG there are cheaper/better units to choose from, i would personally take the Tankhunter with AP HMG over a Moblot HMG any day. Also your Mormaer is kind of obvious as the Metro LT is 2SWC unless you are playing MRRF.
I would go for something more like this:
Line Kazak LT
4x Line Kazak
Tankhunter AP HMG
Tankhunter AP Rifle, ADHL
Scout AP Sniper Rifle
This list gives you two extra orders (Cateran is irregular) and it also has a mix of camo and non camo to confuse the enemy. Also given that your LT is hidden amongst 4 other Line Kazaks it is not obvious at all.
If you are leaning towards the MRRF sectorial then I would reccomend the following:
Bruant
Metro HMG
Metro HMG
Chasseur Minelayer
Chasseur Minelayer
Metro Lt
Metro
Metro
Metro
112
The idea is to have the Metros in a linkteam with Bruant and have the doctor follow them around and try to keep them alive. The two Chasseurs will deploy as 4 camo markers due to their minelayer ability making your force look bigger than it actually is, they can also act as area denial meaning the enemy will most likly stear clear of camo markers because of the unknown factor. This list will have 10 orders which is pretty much the most you can get at 150 points and those HMGs in a link team are going to do a fair amount of owning.
But in Infinity you really can get away with choosing whatever models you like the look of and making them into a list. So, do whatever!
Edit: Hmm, i just though of some problems with my two lists, there are only 3 'basic' line kazak models and there are only 2 'basic' metro models. The non ADHL Chasseur is also hard to get as it only come with the Ariadna Starter Box. I have the original kazak models (no longer available) and some converted metros which enables me to use these lists without doubling up on models

That's a nice list, although, as mentioned I wouldn't recommend taking the Machinist as there's nothing for him to do. Personally, I'd drop the ORC troop both out of the list and as the LT. Having one of your heavy hitters as a LT isn't always recommended. As the new LT, I'd use one of the Fusiliers.
Options for the list:
1) A Trauma Doc could replace the Machinist, while you could fit two Auxilia can replace the ORC trooper.
2) If you decide to keep the Fusilier Hacker, then I'd recommend taking a Bulleteer with one Auxilia. Although, with just starting off I wouldn't recommend diving into hacking just yet. Heck, I've been playing the game for nearly a year (not nearly as long as some) and haven't done anything involving hacking yet.
3) If you drop the Fusilier Hacker (which would remove the Bulleteer), then you could always stick in a Hexas with Spitfire, an additional Auxilia, as well as one more Fusilier for good measure.
4) While I'm not overly fond of the Croc-men sculpts, it might be worthwhile to consider taking a Croc-man Minelayer. If only for that extra psychological impact on your opponent when they see all those camo markers lying around.

Thanks guys. Is having an obvious/not hiding your LT that terrible?
I think I might just go for the Panoceania force, and buy the models I like for Ariadna as a painting project - I'll look at swapping the engineer out for a medic, though I'd quite like to keep the ORC as I like the model!
I don't really like the Croc-men, how does Infinity work with conversions?
Once again, thanks for the responses. It's appreciated!

Losing your Lt in Infinity is pretty bad. If you start your turn in Loss of Lt you only get 2 orders and it costs 2 orders to elect a new Lt. So you basically lose a turn electing a new Lt or spend the rest of the game with only 2 orders. So its best to have at least a couple of units in your list that could be Lt to keep your opponent guessing.

From what I've seen, the best way to disguise your LT is to have a few models that have the same WIP (willpower) as that's what you roll against to determine initial set up and who goes first. Granted, not everyone does it that way.
Also, as Bantha mentioned, being in the Loss of Lt state is never good. Which can occur if your opponent knows who your LT is and targets that unit specifically.
PanO is awesome! Although there's no reason you can't have two armies. As to keeping the ORC, by all means go for it! Personally, I'm just not a big fan of the unit.
As far as I aware, Infinity is very conversion friendly. Provided you don't want to participate in the ITS (Infinity Tournament System). Although, I don't participate in the ITS....so I'm honestly not 100% sure on the rules surrounding conversions.

caylentor - if you like the Orc trooper model (and it is an awesome looking miniature) then go for it mate, I've seem they used pretty successfully in games and they are a good, solid and reliable unit for the PO.
About having to hide your Lt, sometimes you can be brazen about your choice - in fact, it's possible to have some pretty fun psych-games with your opponent (I nearly always use my 'Snake Plisskin' ghulam model for my Lt for instance, so you can joke about it before the game starts). You can take it a step further, and set traps for your opponents - let them waste their hidden TO guy, who then gets blown up in return, on a guy who turns out to be just a line trooper.
Alternatively, my friend once used his Aleph Marut TAG as his Lt in a game. (pictured below). He made no attempt to hide it, I knew it was his Lt. What could I do about it? Sod all
