Subject: Breaking Necrons.... Pinning?

I have a squad of Necrons Warriors that seem to always be broken. I store them in a carrying case and am generally careful with them, but they always break (usually their heads break off or their legs break from their bodies). I am using Games Workshop plastic glue.
Can this be remedied by pinning? I have never really tried it before. All I know is you used a pin vise to drill a hole and stick in some wire (correct me if I'm wrong). What sort of wire do you use? Do you secure the wire with glue or green stuff?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

There's probably your problem right there. Try a plastic glue like Testors or Revell instead. Necrons are a bit tricky because they have such tiny attachment points. If you can glue them before you paint them or clean the paint off before you glue them, that will make them a lot stronger. But you should have no need to pin them if you're using a half decent glue.

Use super glue it works just as well as any other plastic glue, not including the GW glue.

Either way, just stay away from GW glue and you should be right. I preferred plastic glue for Necron warriors because I found it easier to use and the attachment points are tiny. Plastic glue melts the plastic, creating a tough bond on those small areas, though some people prefer superglue and find that easier to use.

I use the Humbrol poly cement, and once set there is very difficult to release. Even when I want it to

I've assembled more plastic Necron Warriors than I care to remember... I use plastic glue and make sure to briefly sand each touching side I'm about to join with a small file, or similar. If it's in that upper torso area then I just dig around with my exacto knife to roughen it up. The plastic glue works best if it has some grit to dissolve. If the surface is too smooth or dirty then the bond won't be as good. After the roughening up, I toss a little glue on each side I'm about to join and make sure to press them together firmly for a second or so before setting them down to dry. I haven't had a single one break at a glued joint since I've assembled them this way... I've actually stepped on a few and had them break elsewhere though.
Regarding pinning - I don't think it's necessary with plastic kits if you glue them, as above. I only pin my metal minis. If you ARE so inclined here's my two cents. I use a pin vice with a bit that will drill a hole that fits a large paper clip (or a piece thereof). Then I drill one side of the model at the joint I want to attach, fill it with super glue and insert the pin (always leave it longer than you need, at first). I then usually, depending on how intricate the model is, dab a bit of black paint (or just eyeball it) on the pin and press it against the other side of the model to line up where I need to drill the second hole (then drill said hole). After that I do a test fit and trim the pin, as needed, add glue to the second hole and insert the pin - if it's metal I add some green stuff around the pin so it forms a nice tight fit... That's the nickel tour. I'm sure you can find articles on pinning with more detail, if you're more curious.
Hope that helps!

Thanks so much, this answers all my questions. I will probably upgrade to something other than GW plastic glue, and roughen up the surfaces so the pieces stick better. Thanks.

While roughening up the surfaces will help, I personally don't think it's necessary and you can probably save yourself a few minutes by not doing it. I only really bother to roughen up surfaces if they are a REALLY poor fit so that the interface region mates a bit better OR when the part has paint on it (glue doesn't stick well to paint).
