I'm planning an upcoming game in which scoring units that come in contact with an objective gain some sort of bonus or malady, and I'm looking for some fun ideas that aren't straight out of the BRB. One example I've thought of so far:

Overcharge! - Models in this unit find the power packs on their shooting weapons have mysteriously doubled in capacity. This unit's shooting attacks now have an additional 50% range. If the unit has no ranged weaponry, nothing happens. Tough luck!

Suggestions?

On the train headin down to delicious town

Regarding your over charge...

Its a good concept but I would add either the "gets hot" special rule or not allow them to shoot on thier next turn...

Thier packs may have doubled in capacity...but the stress of holding and firing all of that extra energy has taken its toll on the firearm...

Gets Hot! is an awesome idea!

My idea number 2: Precision Teleporter - A unit that comes into contact with this objective may choose to immediately move 3d6 inches and deploy using the rules for Deep Strike, without scattering. This uses up the teleporter's power cell and may not be used a second time.

(We'll be playing on a huge table)

Im guessing Apoc?

My idea:

Boobytrapped:
Your soldiers find an unexploded bomb and attempt to rewire it; roll a d6:
1: it explodes in their face: s8 ap3 large blast centered over the objective, destroying it.
2-5: the bomb is set; the owning player may detonate it at any time. If an enemy unit gets in base contact it automatically goes off. The objective is hereby destroyed.
6: The bomb turned out to be a dud, out of juice or some similarly uneventful thing happens. The booby trap cannot be reactivated, but the objective remains in play as normal.

What about a network of hidden objectives:

This battleground was once an exodite world swallowed up within a warpstorm. The hidden webway anchors, forgotten for centuries, still hum to each other through the webways, but have been destabilized over the years, curving in and over themselves.

Basically, write a number on a slip of paper for every piece of terrain with a description. Some are mundane (nothing happens), some are hidden portals (if a unit is counted as taking cover within, but not behind/beside/etc, a hidden webway is opened, sending the unit to another piece of terrain, decided by rolling either 1 or 2d6 dependent upon the number of terrain pieces), some are troves of ancient weapons/knowledge/books/political fliers/monkey feces (considered objectives), and lastly some are residual destabilizing warp energies (unit takes a str D, wounds on a 2+, AP-, 1 blast hit centered on the lead model of the unit and all the numbers are collected off the board, shuffled, and redistributed).

Loot!
This objective is a secret cache of (teef, power packs, Emperor's Finest(R) brand Bald Polish, poncey space elf crystals, etc.) and everyone in the squad wants some. Any unit within 3" of this objective gains Stubborn, but cannot use the leadership of any characters within (if the whole unit is composed of characters, use the lowest Leadership among them), as the (Nob, Sergeant, Exarch) is too busy counting his treasure to issue orders.

Mysterious Buttons!
Private Johnson (or Johnsonbot or Brother Johnsonus or Termagant strain J0-N 5.0N) has moved within 3" of the Critical MacGuffin and tripped over a shiny thing on the ground. Upon further inspection, the shiny thing appears to be an ancient control panel. Do you push the button?
Yes - Roll 1d6 to determine what kind of button it is.
1: Vortex Generator. Place a small round template over the objective. Any model touched by the template is automatically hit by a Vortex burst with the following statline: S10 AP1 Shred Armourbane Ignores Cover Instant Death. The Objective is removed and no longer grants victory points.
2: Cortex Ventilator. All units within 2d6" of the objective suffer 2d6 S4 AP6 hits. A unit cannot suffer more hits in this way than there are models in the unit.
3: Misfortune Engine. The unit that activates the button rerolls all rolls of 6 until the start of its controlling player's next move phase.
4: Inverse Microwave Beam. The ranged weapons of units within 3" of this objective gain Gets Hot.
5: Spring-Loaded Snark Launcher. The unit closest to the objective suffers a single S1 AP2 attack with the Poisoned special rule.
6: Nothing awful. This time.

No - Yes you do.

Thanks again to everyone who posted replies here. I've posted a short batrep for anyone who'd like to see how the game went.

How about this?

Warp Node - The squad leader of the unit in contact with the objective (or independant character/monstrous creature if squad leader not present) immediately becomes a mastery level 1 psyker and generates a power from a randomly selected rulebook deck.

Eg. Exarch and Dire Avenger squad moves to objective and the Exarch becomes a level 1 psyker with a random power. If the Exarch was dead or not bought then any independant character or monstrous creature in range could take the power instead.

Note that the power is lost if the model with it is killed or the unit moves out of range of the objective.
