For the upgrade kit, what exactly are the parts? Specifically I would like to know if those extra armor plates on his shoulders are separate, or if they are already attached to the upper chassis. I would like to know this because if they are separate, I think those parts would be cool to use to personalize other 'jacks.

They're separate parts. Comes with two shoulder pads, head, hand, 2 fingers and thumb.

all metal parts for anything can be bought seperately on the PP webstore. But you can also get the full upgrade kit which may be cheaper. Never really priced it out

You can just buy the Black Ivan upgrade kit too.
