Hi guys,

Love the forum, lurk here a bunch looking up info for my 40k RPG games. Just wanted to drop by and let you know of a tool I just finished.

Edit: Updated the following:

40kRPGTools.com is growing every day with more resources for GMs. Here are some of the current features:

40k RPG Master Bestiary 1500+ entities. Every Stat'd npc in the 40k RPG universe with source book and page number. Find critters fast.

40k RPG Master Armoury 1100+ weapons. Complete listing of every weapon in the 40k RPG universe with stat block, source book, and page number.

40k RPG Master Library 70 books. Full tables of contents (even when the real book is missing one), and organized by type to help you figure out which book to get next.

Overall Features

Comprehensive: The goal is to be 100% complete
Fast Search Tables: just type in a few letters and get results immediately
Filtering Tables: filter your tables by book, setting, entity type, etc.
Interlinked: Books reference their contents, master lists refernece their books and settings, etc.
Commentable: Any item can be commented on if you find a mistake or want to make a note for other GMs.

Enjoy and tell me what you think!

I think that's the point though. He's created a massive reference document that (for the most part) doesn't infringe upon FFG's property.

The reason sites like d20srd.org and d20pfsrd.com exist is because those games exist under an Open Gaming License and what they do is acceptable use under that License. I don't believe FFG's 40k games have such a license, and therefore he can't include more information than what he has. I think he's technically treading a line by including the actual names of the NPCs and monsters, but I'm not a lawyer.

That's a well made tool OP, I don't play 40k RPGs, but I can certainly appreciate the work that went into that. If you could include more information that would be awesome, but I don't think that's possible right?

jbsnv: I'd love to include the full stat block, but yeah Alfndrate is correct, it would almost certainly trigger a take down request from FFG/GW.

Alfndrate: Thank you! I'm hoping it will be helpful to GM's, particularly in the case where they are looking to use certain races (Eldar, Necrons, Tyranids, etc) and are wondering in which of the many many books the stats lie. That's useful when you are just trying to figure out which of your books has the relevant stat block, but I think it could also be hlepful to guide purchasing decisions.

Each setting goes into different depths on different races, with some overlap, but units are pretty haphazardly scattered across the books. So if you want to have your players deal with Necrons for example, you can see that the best single book to purchase is Deathwatch - The Outer Reach. Alternately if you are looking for Dark Eldar, then your best single book purchase could be Rogue Trader - The Soul Reaver.

Furthermore in cases where the same unit has been stat'd multiple times, it is helpful to know what the latest stat for each system is and the latest stat overall, as those are most likely to be considered definitive. The game systems have evolved over time and it is more likely that a Black Crusade entry for a unit will be more accurate and well built than one from the early days of Dark Heresy.

Looks like a useful tool! I guess the 40k RPGs don't have any built-in stats for power ratingt hat could be included? I.E. D&D has used various systems to rate monster difficulty, and including those would be very helpful for GMs.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Yeah, something like a Challenge Rating, Equivilant Character Level, or w/e 40k RPG uses would probably be the one addition that I could see for this. or even if you have to create your own to avoid publishing copywritten material. Like, "Designed for parties of X Level"...

I guess the 'segmented' nature of the RPGs would be an issue here, though. A minor challenge for Deathwatch PCs would be a big deal to Dark Heresy, and serious for Rogue Trader PCs in a lot of cases.

Balance is correct, the five systems are designed for different levels of power. Although, arguably, Dark Heresy and Only war are fairly similar in scale, and Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, and DH: Ascension are all in a similar ballpark.

That said, I have been mulling over ways to add more useful information without triggering Exterminatus One piece of information I can display is the threat rating system developed in Deathwatch, where enemies are categorized as Troop, Elite, and Master.

I have considered storing some of the stat blocks in the database (but not visible to the public) which would enable me to calculate and present abstract information in a non infringing way. For example, some combination of highest stat, number of unnatural attributes, wounds, armour, weapon damage, and presence of psyker/sorcerous powers, or major combat traits like swift/lightning attack or step aside, could all be combined into some sort of rough categorization like Melee Fighter - Minima/Minoris/Majoris/Extremis. I dunno, would be a lot of work but could be interesting. Almost like figuring out a point cost for the unit and then displaying that, rather than the exact stats. There is probably some combination in here that could be useful.

All that said, I WISH FFG/GW, and others would wake up to the modern world and start providing or at least endorsing online tools.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I think this is a great resource. The point isn’t to have a big document with all the stats, but to act as a quick reference for GM’s (“I need a Lictor... ahh... Mark of the Xenos page XX! Excellent!”).

I had one of these ages ago, but it’s so hopelessly outdated now (it was before Deathwatch came out IIRC) that it’s mostly useless. An updated one is fantastic.

Thank you for this!

Always good when a writer for FFG compliments your work

HBMC: Thank you! And yes, that's exactly it, to give GM's a lightning fast way to find what they are looking for. Also FFG offers a variety of options for each unit across the books, some are more detailed than others.

Alfndrate: Hell yeah! HBMC writes for FFG? By far and away my favorite games company, the 40k series is great, been playing it for years now. Now I feel kind of bad about the wake up remark lol...

Bumping, updated recently. All inclusive except RT Faith and Coin and the new Only War adventure, both of which I'll add soon.
