Well, not really, but it is a good story, and made me thin of Chung Kuo.

Chung Kuo is in the process of being re-released, by the way. A couple of prequal books are already out, and eventually there will be a re-write of The Marriage of the Living Dark.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Basically, his publishers paid him up to book 7, then made him combine books 8 and 9 into one book AND didn't even pay him for it. He only wrote it so the series was not left completely unfinished, but he was massively unhappy with it. That is a big part of the reason for this re-release.
