Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Not bad at all!

I'd be tempted to add a little bit more onto the bases just to make things look a little more interesting - unfortunately mostly black armies can look a little bit dull.

SilverMK2: Yea, I am going to add some more detail to the bases but I just can't make up my mind with what to go with. This is my first time painting space marines, I like the black templar colors and fluff but will be using them as vanilla marines in terms of rules.
If anyone has any suggestions for the base I'd love to read about it. Cheers!

Some static grass and some field grass would allow you to add a little bit more texture and interest to the bases and it comes in several colours and types. For my desert bases I use the dry grass from Gale Force 9, and the field grass from Woodland Scenics.

I also use the large basing material from GF9 as smallish (28mm head sized) rocks, often piling them up into small cairns (rock piles used to mark places) or natural rock piles. It doesn't even need painting to look right on a desert base.

You could also try some cork to do the same thing but with larger rocks (check out a local pet store as they often sell large chunks of wood for reptiles to sit on which can be broken apart and used for this too - it has usually been dried too which is very helpful).

Example of static grass and large basing material:

Perhaps some sand with rocks and all?

Just checked with my local store guys, they sell GW dead grass which I feel will look good on the bases. I want to keep the 'grimdark' feel of the army which is why its dull at the moment but yes I will add more color. thanks for the suggestions guys!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
a terminator librarian on wip base made of cork. will be adding dead grass and sand as soon as I can re-stock. Going for a kind of death valley theme. Tell me your thoughts:

WIP landspeeder, this is as far as I'm building it just now before painting, the other one is near this level of building but I'm having to re shape the plastic abit for them to fit in place. Dang these things were not produced to be builder friendly!

... and yes, I am using my floor as a tripod.

Hi Logan, for the yellow pads, it was done as a throwback to the founding Imperial Fists chapters that spawned the creation of the Black Templars/Crimson Fists (We all know that anyways). Given that I painted the single yellow pad, its supposed to represent how this would have been one of the first forces to become Black Templar under the new organization. I had sprayed primer on the troops first, so all pads were black... I then applied multiple coats of white as the new base for the pads... then I applied multiple coats of GW Sunburst Yellow. I used a bit of watered down white to blend out the edges so that it's not so stark against the pad edges.

Tomorrow is a public holiday in Hong Kong so I will go back to the store and do some more work on the models (basing). I might also replace my airbrush so that I can get my Space Marine battle force based quickly at least.

Thanks.
