way back in the mists of time, back when it was just Tau, a young Yeri walked into his FLGS and was drawn to the shiny new army called "Tau". that was where 40k started for me, and now with the new codex I've finally decided to come back to my first army. and Yeri being Yeri I just can't leave my army stock. even back then I had built my fire warriors with two shoulder pads instead of one, so I've decided to channel that first foray into the hobby in this new army, plus some more modifications. my plans are to build a 2k point army of the new Tau inspired by that first army and the things that influenced me back then. so let's get started with some fire warriors:

like I said these guys have two shoulder pads, as well as a "skirt" and a higher collar. my intention with this was to make a kind of "Hazardous Environment Armor" made for extreme environments like tundras and deserts.

I've always felt that fire warrior shas'ui were not distinctive enough, so I gave mine those cool conical hats. also you will note that he has a markerlight attached to his pulse rifle made from a pulse carbine.

I'm also a fan of all those badass longcoat characters you see in anime and action films. so i decided to give my Kroot some coats.

I've got a lot more that I've just made today, but the glue and GS is still drying, so it's going to be a little bit before I can get some photos of them. also I'll try to get some fluff together as soon as I can, but it probably won't be today. anyways I'd love to know what you think so far.

Alright time for more: I've got pathfinders, HQ, and a remora
First some pathfinders:

as you can see I did the same thing with the pathfinders that I did with the fire warriors.

now for the HQ choices:

this is my commander. after seeing a thread on Gundam models I decided to make my commander resemble the Tallgeese from Gundam Wing. unfortunately putting the double burst cannons over the shoulder was not possible with the jetpacks made from two seeker missiles, so I slung it under the arm.

this is my Ethereal, and I did some work to make her more recognizable as female. I added a breastplate and some longer hair, then i decided it would be cool if she was a knife nut. so I turned those things in her hands into a pair of knives, one in the scabbard and one drawn.

and finally I give you: the WIP remora:

this was made from the pathfinder burst drone as well as some battlesuit weapons and half a cockpit from a sunshark.

that's all I have for now, and I'm running low on GS so I'm not sure how much more I'll be able to get done until about Tuesday, so bear with me.

Wow I really let this project fall by the wayside, but now I'm back at this and I've got a lot to show you:

first off I'm building a Tiger Shark, or maybe multiple Tiger Sharks with this as the prototype. it's still in the core phase, after which I will "skin" it with plasticard and add some detail.

and this is a counts as allied tactical marine. he's armed with a counts as bolter, a short barreled pulse rifle.

and this is the special weapon trooper of the tactical squad, he's armed with a flamer.

finally I have the heavy weapons trooper of the tactical squad, armed with a multi melta that was inspired by the old Mutant Chronicles character Big Bob Watts.

now for some more orthodox tau:

I have a Hazardous environment version of the stealth suit. originally I got them so that I could steal their burst cannons for the crisis suits, but then I realized that they would make great base models for counts as terminators. I'll show you what I mean as soon as I can figure out how to model the power fists.

and to wrap it all up for now I was digging through my old models and found a fully assembled Hammerhead from way back when. lucky me

Look forward to seeing how this progresses, especially that Tiger Shark you plan on building, cant wait to see more.

yea the Tiger Shark is going to be a bit unusual in that it will take a few design cues from the f-117 stealth fighter. I guess it will be a passive stealth variant of the Tiger Shark, maybe even an experimental model. no effect in game but fluff wise it will be stealthed to radar. also I'm trying to work out what I'm going to do with all the foam board I've got. I'm thinking before this summer is over I'll make two tiger sharks, two Orcas, a manta, and maybe some barracudas in addition to my ground forces made up of my tau army and a number of allied detachments. wish me luck

I was on a roll today, got a heck of a lot done. one thing I'm not quite ready to show is that I'm slowly working my way through converting two more units of fire warriors, but here's what I'm ready to show:

I said I'd be working on some counts as terminators, well here they are.

and I'm making progress on skinning the tiger shark.

and this is a counts as Guardsman for my allied IG. they are an auxilia race called the Necrophage that are distantly related to the nids. I'll expand on who they are as soon as I can get around to writing some fluff for this army.

And now for something completely different:

battlesuits! I've got a full unit of my "poor man's anti-air broadsides" here, as well as half a unit of "dakkasuits" that I'm working on right now. I've also made:

THIS! a hazard suit made from a broadside.

that's all I have for now, but I'll see if I can get anything done this evening.

That hazard suit is actually pretty freaking sweet.

Alright so my parents have instituted a rule while I'm here for the summer: I can't start a new army before I finish the one before it. and because the tau army is the closest to being a full army that was decided to be the first army. so I'm back at this, and I've got something to show you:

this is my counts as SM librarian in terminator armor. because the fluff for my counts as SM are that they are tau super soldiers, and because tau have no psykers I had to get a bit creative with how I'd create a tau librarian. so I thought about it a bit and remembered another magic substance that would suffice for some form of space magic: nanobots. in fiction it seems they can do anything you need them to, almost like some kind of science fiction magic. so I took my design for the terminators and added a kind of "nano capacitor" to his back, as well as the tendrils of a cloud of nanobots.

also I've FUBARed the tiger shark, but I'm going to make another one with a bit of a different method using some insulation foam. that one should be a bit closer to the FW model. also at some point I'll be making a manta using the same method, and maybe a pair of orcas to go with it.

anyways I'll get back to work now, there's still a ways to go.
