I cant help but think that wraithguard need to be able to mix up their weapons. I think if wraithguard could mix D-scythes with the standard gun would provide a better unit. Also mixing up the blades with the axes would make the unit stronger and not necessarily over powered but able to fit more situations. I wonder why they required the whole unit to take the same weapons. It seems like this deserves a FAQ to make this unit more versatile.

Thought?

Eldar have always been a 'this unit does this, that unit does that' army. You don't mix uses. And with d-scythes and wraithcannons being so drastically different in purpose, why would you want a combo of them both?

Maybe with wraithblades you have a point, like assault termies can do, but even then...

I don't think mixed scythes and wraith cannons would be helpful, but mixed swords and axes might be.

You would leave some members of the squad more open to powerfists and the like though.

But like Von Chogg says, Eldar have always been specialists. Now it is the same with the wraithguard/blades as the aspect warriors.

Wraithguard with cannons - on foot, objective holding, anti tank, monstrous creatures, multi wound models

Wraithguard with scythes - anti elite, 1 wound infantry (but can take a punt at multi wound with distort rule), not monstrous creatures or tank, always buy a wave serpent!

Wraithblades with swords - 3+ or worse save infantry with few or no power weapons/fists, wraith assault unit

Wraithblades with axes - Tarpit unit, go for elite units like terminators and hold them all day with t6, 4++ and fearless. Add buffs from runes of battle and fate to really amp this up.

I honestly don't see the point of Wraithguard with anything except D-Scythes (except from an aesthetic point of view).

Cannons: Scythes have the same effect on a 6. You shouldn't be using them to shoot vehicles and scythes get more wounds off on multi-wound models. More wounds = more chances to roll 6 to wound.

Swords: There are better units for fighting 3+ save infantry. WG are kind of slow and not a great assault unit.

Axes: Better choice than swords, but again suffer from being a mediocre assault unit.

It would be nice to mix and match but in the current ruleset Scythes are the superior choice every time.

Why shouldn't you use wraithcannon to shoot vehicles?

However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

Because you can get much better ranged AV firepower elsewhere and not have to run up within 12" to shoot them.
