I think I'm gonna start painting my IF guys as soon as I finish up the SW terminators I'm currently doing.
The technique I've settled on produces a really bright yellow, which I like but wondering how many of you prefer a dull imperial fist and how many a bright one?

Also I'm going with the black trim, but should they still have a red aquila? I've seen both all red/all black/black trim red aquila IFs but can't get a straight answer on which is more codex accurate.

Bright yellow for me! It's part of the reason for choosing Fists in the first place, which too much dirt and battle damage detracts from. The opposite I suppose would be taking a dark scheme like Black Legion, Raven Guard or Iron Hands then giving them all pink fluffy legwarmers. Doesn't seem right does it...?

For the aquila, I don't think I've seen the exact colour covered anywhere but I know it's not company-specific - so fluff-wise I want to say red. Trouble is, it would look better as black if you're using black trims already.

I know what you mean , I have seen some very nice darker IFs but generally yeh, nice bright clean yellow for me! I've not really ventured into weathering and battle damage yet any way, to scarred of messing up my nice paint jobs. Should get some random models to experiment on.

I also think black trim/red chest would look odd, what I thought I might do is - just black on standard troops but red detail on characters/commanders etc (i.e lysanders cape in red, red on a squad leaders bolter etc)

These IFs are my "budget" projects, seeing as my SWs swallow up a lot of money, most of these IFs are bargains I've gotten off eBay, spares from mates etc - only intend to buy a few bits at full retail price.
Luckily I've got very good at stripping paint.
