Hi everyone, i have been occasionally been buying the packs and single packs of the lotr or hobbit heroclix minis, and i was curious on how exactly i would have to start with the game in general. i know there are 2 starter sets, 1 for the hobbit, and the other for the lotr version, but which do i get??? does the hobbit set have a more updated set of rules? or..............i am so confused.... i have some miniatures already, including The Mouth of Sauron (I have heard he is a rarer mini),gollum, frodo,faramir,etc,etc, but i have no idea how to even play the game, (yet) but would LOVE to get into it, and learn more, but i also have a zillion other hobbies like the lotr/hobbit sbg,40k, MAGIC ,Star Wars rpg, Dungeons and Dragons, Axis and Allies the miniatures game,and TOO many others,and i REALLY wanna get into FOW, but have not decided yet, but i am trying not to kill my wallet at the same time, trying to keep up with all of them at the same time, so i have decided to just take it slower with the hobbies.

Anyways, any help with learning the game, and what to buy,etc, would be great, or you could send me a private message, either way is fine, THANKS!

The most up to date rules will be in which ever came out later(technically, it'll be in whichever Heroclix starter was most recently released, but I doubt you want movie Superman fighting Bilbo).

Also, you can download the latest version of the rules on the Wizkids website. Everything labeled Heroclix uses the same rules. It's fun seeing the looks on people's faces when you bring out teams consisting of things like Mountain Troll + Ryu + Hellboy.

I looked at the website, and found nothing.....unless i was looking in the wrong section, but does it really use the same rules set as the super heroes version of Heroclix?

The problem with the clix system always the new minis will defeat the old ones. The stats are enclosed in the base and changing them will be cheating if you go to a tournament or even in casual gaming. I recommend you rebase them and use another gaming rules.

Seriously, some of the older figures are still insanely good.

my girlfriend and I enjoy the hobbity clix a lot. We don't play the superhero version.

The "Epic Actions" really spice the game up, and the abilities of the characters are very fluffy with Tolkein and the LoTR. Especially set three.

I would pick up the second starter; it has a slightly updated rule set and we find the figs a bit more fun. But you will probably want both. At least grab a Gollum on ebay -- he's a lot of fun.

Pick-up the 2nd starter and just use those rules if you are staying using hobbit/LoTR figures. If you love those figures and are having a good time then go for it. I like my haloclix, and street fighter figs and I will be picking up the yugioh ones when they drop. Playing pick-up games with friends is tons of fun (you can pretty much do whatever you want). Just don't use the superhero ones against them because there is serious balance issues between the flagship stuff (Marvel/DC) and the "other" stuff (Hobbit/LoTR/Halo/SF/etc.).

I would recommend getting the first starter as Sauron is a beast. (He beat Hulk to death in the last game I used him in)

capt. camping- i am not switching around bases, idk why you even assumed that either, you are very mistaken, i was asking on how to START the game, not cheat at it. so i must ask, do YOU switch around the bases? then YOU would be the one cheating.

I think he was trying to say that you can't change the stats on the old figs to bring them in to competitive alignment with the new figs unless you are playing with people that are cool with it and the figs are balanced. I think the point that was trying to be made is that you have to start with a new(ish) starter set for the up-to-date rules, and to even have competitive figures.

yeah,i suppose so, but yeah, switching bases with npeople that are fine with it, would probably be a better idea then going into a tournament with swapped bases, and getting caught.

but anyways, the Hobbit or the lotr heroclix starter set has the more updated rules? like which none would be my best bet?

They just changed the rules and pac, so neither has an up to date rulebook. You might just want to go on a site like Troll and Toad or Cool Stuff and pick up some singles you like and the new rulebook.

well, i found the hobbit heroclix campaign starter set, with the maps,tokens,etc, and I printed out the 2013 HEROCLIX rulebook, so i now have the 8 from the campaign set, and a bunch of other lotr/hobbit heroclix, to use for some big battles. i also feel like ordering one of those gravity feeds with the single packs of lotr or hobbit heroclix miniatures......
