So when trying to read the fluff for 40k It says that an Aegis defense line can be set up fairly quickly. By fairly quickly, I mean that if the I.G. spots an Ork Horde, they can unpack it and set it up before the charging horde gets into firing range.

But my question that I cannot seem to find any answers online about, is how long would it take to construct a fortress of redemption.

Say the Dark Angels have tracked a member of the fallen to a planet, but have no clue where he specifically is, only the general area. How long would it take them to construct a fortress of redemption to use as a temporary base so that the Rock can leave to pursue other rumors of fallen?

I imagine that in this situation, (say 5 leads on 1 planet.) That the Rock would drop off a portion of the 10th company (all scouts) and a piece of the second company (ravenwing) and have them build a F.O.R. to use as a temp base while they scout out the area to find an exact location where they can then message the rock to send in tac squads and the deathwing. In the meantime, they are going to the other places on the planet and doing the same drop off.

How long do you think it would take them to construct this thing, with missile silo and all?

I'd say pretty fast I always presumed that SM drop down ready made sections which just have to be joined together.

Have you ever played Dawn of War? that has a rather nice representation of buildings being deployed from orbit

I have actually only played the demo of the second game. So basically, what you guys are getting at, Is that in less than a day they would have a F.O.R. established and ready to use as a base? If so, then this really helps with my fluffy army idea.

With orbital drop capability, prefabricated parts and suspensor techonology to help with the heavy lifting I can imagine such things can be constructed very quickly. however there may need to be some preparatory work on the ground to take the loads and make some foundations. Similarly it might take a while to properly fit out the mechanical and electrical systems and crane in missile ammo. You probably don't want to drop such things quite as rapidly as you might be able to do with a chunky bunker structure

Would they even bother, I mean if the planet has no tactical advantage why not do most things from orbit. They are going to have ships that they can land oand go to and fro as they require.

I can't imagine they would set up a Fortress of Redemption on every back water armpit of a planet they land on after hearing a rumour of a Fallen, I imagine if the planet had some form of significance they might.

If it is already an Imperial world then it's also possible that they might use established bases as possible er .. bases. Chasing Fallen as well you wouldn't really want a whopping great big building declaring the THE DARK ANGELS ARE HERE.

Only my opinion of course. The only guys I have read about really taking buildings with them and building fortifications has been the Iron Warriors.

An ADL yeah sure but Bastions and stuff to me would already be built and used prior to any engagement as a result of a previous one due to a lesson learnt.

No pity, no remorse, no shoes

With enough Servitors and a Tech-Priest to oversee them? A matter of hours, assuming you had pre-fab parts being deployed from orbit and only had to have Tab A inserted into Slot B on the ground.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
