I am planing to make a crusading themed army for my vanillas. I already have almost everything I need to make an army consisted of 3-4 chapters who sent their warriors on a joint crusade against the Xenos


These are my freshly built Black Templar Sternguard Vets that I use in my vanilla crusade themed sm army.

I collected the parts for over a year from various sources like forgeworld, ebay and other sites that sell bitz. I bought a tactical squad box from witch i took the back parts of the torsos, legs and some backpacks (it was better to buy the whole box than buy those things separately!),

They still need some trimming job and their bases done, but for now I am satisfied that they are finally out of the bitz box and standing on their own !






I like this guy over here, he's representing some sort of chaplain added to the squad. His hands were converted from a grenade hand and a missile launcher hand to look like he's blessing his squad.. He's still just a normal model


And his gun is still there too !





I've magnetized the right hands of these two so i can use the heavy flamer option if i wanted to. The magnets are hidden under the medals


Cant wait to finish them!

I really like those helmets, nice and crusadey.
My only gripe is that the hooded model looks a lot like a Librarian. As I'm sure you know that would not go down well with the Black Templars
Perhaps it's the paint job (or current lack of) that gives him that feeling or it could just be me.
Btw what is he holding in his hand? I can't seem to make it out

He is holding that lantern thingy you get on a black templar upgrade pack sprue, and fluffwise i really dont know what do they use it for. Cant find the correct word how to describe it, but it reminds me on something a religious figure would use in some ceremonies, so i sticked it in his hand

I acctually would use an advice on how to paint them, i see people use red to paint details on BT veterans, and i hope i will do black well, because i never painted black armor!

EDIT: and yeah when i think of it he actually looks quite like a librarian haha... but heck maybe when he gets his paint it would look different

No combiweapons? anyway those vets realy look like you put alot of thought into them. stellar

unfortunately i couldn't get all the combi weapons :( so i decided to go with normal sterguard bolters and will proxy for the combi's

Now I need some inspiration on what colour should i paint my drop pods.

These sternguard are part of an army that will consist of 2x tactical squads of Ultramarines, 1x tactical squad of Dark Angels, Black Templar sternguard, Back Templar ironclad dreadnought, a mix of Blood Angels and Ultramarines assault squad, all led by Vulkan He'stan of the Salamanders and a Chaplain.

They will ride on 5 drop pods.

Now my only dilema is in wich colours should my drop pods be?

I mean i cant paint the dedicated transport in the colours of the current squad inside of it, because it would mean they all brought their pods on the crusade

I need a theme for them too, because they will be a small crusaiding army traviling on their assingment on one of the chapters ships.

All Black Templar pods would mean that the Black Templars are leading the crusade, but still my main HQ here is Vulkan, so am not sure what would be the colouring scheme of the pods...

Maybe to count the Chaplain as the one designated to lead the crusaide, but still who is he in comparison to the mighty Vulkan?
