Hi Dakka, I am new to the tournament part of 40k and have been working on a list for my Farsight Enclaves army for a 1500 point tournament being held in a few week at a FLGS. Since I have never been to a tournament I was wondering if I could grab some tips off you guys for list building and what to expect at a tournament and from the other players participating (i.e. common strategies or lists I might face). Unfortunately I have never played at this store as I generally play at home with my brother and a friend so I can't comment on the 'local meta'

But any advice that you an offer would be great.

Here is the list I am planning on taking,

Some general tips:

Practice with your list as much as you can; not just to help yourself strategy/tactics wise, but to get your playtime down. You can't take five minutes to stare and think about what to shoot at during a tournament, and this is one of the biggest issues for new tournament players--they just aren't used to playing on a clock. At a small tournament, it's unlikely anyone would say anything to you about it, but it is rather disrespectful to your opponents to end up slowplaying (intentionally or not) and end up with a 3-turn game.

Think about how you'll transport your army from table to table. You'll want something to carry your models on, no matter how simple. Some people bring baking sheets or just old cardboard boxes, but in general you just don't want to have to take six trips to move your army from Table A to Table B by hand, particularly since it will increase your chance of dropping/breaking a model by quite a bit.

Sit the hell down. Tournament days are likely 8 hours at a minimum, so if the place has any chairs available whatsoever, grab one. You'll be feeling it by the end of the day if you stand around for the entirety of an 8-10 hour tournament day.

And this one's kinda reliant on how cutthroat your playerbase is, but don't be afraid to ask questions about rules. There's plenty of people who will "forget" how a rule works just to see if you're paying enough attention or know the rules well enough to call them on it. Keep in mind that you don't want to end up on the opposite side where you look like a jerk for constantly calling people out, so always come at these things from a curious/confused standpoint and just ask the guy if he's sure that's how X works or that Y is allowed to do Z, rather than bluntly stating that someone's doing it wrong. In most cases, just questioning it at all will be enough for people to "remember" the proper rule and play it correctly, but having them look it up in the books and show you, if necessary, is better than getting cheated because you're too timid to ask.

That seems like some really good advice, one of the benefits of playing Farsight Enclaves is less models which means quicker turns.
