My Local club is running a campaign soon and wondered what you guys thought of my list. I've brainstormed a fair bit recently and figured that as most of the Army has Acute Senses, yet rarely uses it. I've been trying to figure out a way to exploit this ability with an idea that I can almost herd enemy armies into the mid-field, create multiple imediate threats and excel where space wolves excel best.

I ran a very similar list to the below against a strongly competetive DE list at the weekend which ended in a very close draw and as such have since honed a few things.

I've split the list into the units starting on the board and the outflankers and tried to give an idea of what i have running in each squad:

The Starting Line up:

Rune Priest (Living Lightening, Jaws of the World Wolf)- 100pts
X8 Grey hunters (Wolf Standard, Meltagun) + Rhino - 170pts
Wolf Guard (Power Armour, Combi-Melta, Combi-Flamer) - 28pts

Rune Priest - 100pts
Long Fangs (x4 missile Launchers) + Drop Pod (Deathwind Missile Launcher) - 170pts ****

Long Fangs (x4 missile Launchers, Flamer) + Drop Pod (Deathwind Missile Launcher) - 175pts ****

Predator (Autocannon, Heavy Bolters) - 85pts

Predator (Autocannon, Heavy Bolters) - 85pts

The Outflankers

Bran Redmaw - 210pts
x10 Fenrisian Wolves - 90Pts

Wolf Priest (Saga of the Hunter, Runic Armour, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Combi-Melta) - 150pts
x10 Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, x2 Melta Guns) + Drop Pod (Deathwind Missile Launcher) **** - 220Pts

Wolf Guard (Power Armour, Combi Flamer, Combi Melta) - 28pts
x10 Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, x2 Melta Guns) + Drop Pod (Deathwind Missile Launcher) **** - 220Pts

Dreadnought (Assault Cannon, Heavy Flamer, Wolf Tooth Necklace) + Drop Pod (Death Wind Missile Launcher) **** - 180 Pts

Total: 2001Pts

**** Drop Pods (Deathwind Missile Launchers) - I have 5 of these in total - For clarification - the only drop pod that will be dropping with anything in it will be the one assigned to the dreadnought. The Rest will be dropping empty, the idea being that they can block line of sight and drop a few nice big pie plates (Albeit S5 - better than nothing) - This gives my opponent two options - Deal with it or Ignore it and move around it.

Potential Query for discussion:
I know outflanking units that take a dedicated transport must arrive in their dedicated transport, however my outflanking units outnumber my drop pod capacity, therefore i have no way of starting in them (intentional)- I assume that this means i can still outflank my Units and then drop my drop pods empty?

The Twilight Zone

It looks pretty good, but I question the need for dual combi weapons on the WG. Consider dropping to a single weapon each. The points you save could buy you a chooser of the slain, which may be useful for your strategy.

Not sure you need the Wolf tooth necklaces on the priest or dread. Priests are not that great in CC(good, but not that good) and dreads should not have too much trouble. Points to give your rune priest runic armor.

Another option is to get more fenresian wolves to escort bran and help him go super sayian.

I am not a huge fan of deathwind launchers due to the cost, but in mass they could work.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

The Combi-weapons are there to:
a) add a third melta to the outflanking squads - increases tank hunting / dealing with high toughness/armour
b) give a second melta to Rune Priests Rhino Squad.
c) flamers increase my chances for overwatch (D3 autohits)

The WTN's on dread and priest, I figured those are the guys who are going to be in the thick of it and see combat - figure I'd prefer to hit on a 3+ as much as I can - although the wolf priest does grant Prefered enemy to a specific model type...

I was debating more fen wolves - those guys are pretty delicate! Although I was thinking, Bran would grant them 6+ cover save due to stealth (saga of the hunter), which if I could move them on into cover the turn they come in - will increase to 4+ - probably the best chance of using them first turn they arrive As they cant assault / have no guns etc. Chances are by this turn 3 Bran would have Turned and then can move the full 12" and ignore difficult terrain.

I never used to be! Same view as you - bit over priced for what they are. - but imagine dropping three drop pods down blocking LOS of your opponents Heavy Weapon squad - they either shoot the pod or try and move around it forcing snapshots. I think the psycology behind a bunch of things turning up dropping a large blast in the opponent half creates immediate threats that are difficult to shift with bog standard guns (av12 all round) meaning something that could be shooting something nasty at my long fangs / predators/ rune priest is tied up for at least a turn. Plus usually Turn 1 things tend to hug cover - often bunching them together - perfect for a large blast (maintargets being infantry / light vehicles) and the best thing is is the blasts can't hurt the drop pod so no worries if it scatters back.

I think I can afford to drop one maybe two drop pods at 55pts a piece, I think that'll help me kit the rune priests properly - usually I'm a big fan of choosers of the slain - use more than one and you can almost dictate where enemy infiltrators are going to go.

Tried this list out (with only 3 drop pods - put the points into thr rune priests, added a third wolf guard squad leader and bolstered the fen wolves) against an Ork battle wagon force and it worked a treat. Tabled him by end of run 4!

Great fun and completely the opposite of what he was expecting - got lured in by the rune priests and long fangs

Empty missile pods worked amazingly! Tied things up - I think more due to the psychology of a large pie plate dropping than the S5

- any ideas how i could sub a similar list if I dropped bran - would it be a case if a few small scout squads with Wolf guard?
