Deadly Dark Eldar Warrior
|
i am playing a local tounrey using my dark eldar and even though my previous games with the following list have all been a success i feel there is room for improvement, any help would be greatly appreciated.
HQ
archon - husk blade, soul trap, GP armour, shadow field, blast pistol
Archon - blaster, agoniser, GP armour
TROOPS
10 kabalite warriors - splinter cannon
raider - DL, splinter racks, NS, FF
10 kabalite warriors - splinter cannon
raider - DL, splinter racks, NS, FF
ELITES
4 trueborne - 4 blasters
venom - extra canon
5 incubi - klaivex, blood stone, demi klaives, murderous assault, onslaught
FAST ATTACK
10 scourges - 4 splinter canons
3 reavers - heat lance
HEAVY SUPPORT
2 ravagers - 3 DLs, FF, NS
void raven - 2 implosion missiles, 2 shatterfield missiles
please dont suggest wyches as i have tried and tested them and almost 100% of the time their transport gets popped and the units mown down, on the off chance they do reach combat they are too few to make a difference.
i have also tried wracks, grotesques, engines and haemoncs and they are too slow, too expensive and too few in number for my play style.

Your going into a 1750 tournamnet with 2 troop choices, which is low for most armies. Considering how fragile DE are, you need at least three, if not four troops. Since you don't like wracks or wytches, shoe in some more kabalite warriors. Fortunately, you have a lot you can toss to achieve this. As an aside, I fail to see how wracks don't work for you, as they are dirt cheap, decent in CC, scoring with a hamey and can access liquifiers and venoms. I take it your huskblade Archon is going with the incubi? If so, I would drop the blast pistol for drugs. 2-5 gives you a better Archon, while 6 gives you FNP off the bat for your expensive incubi squad(which is a good thing). Well worth the points, and if you really want some emergency AT grab haywire grenades. The second archon seems worthless, just adding another blaster to your trueborn squad. I would drop him entirely and put the points towards troops. Flickerfields may be overkill but between tau, eldar and flying MC's/helldrakes I understand taking them. Your incubi are seriously bloated, and on foot they are just too easy to kill. No sane opponent will ever let them get close enough to do anything before shooting them to bits. Drop the klaivex and put the points into a raider. If you have to keep the klaivex, just take onslaught. 5 normal incubi and an archon should be killy enough. Splinter cannons are OK on scourges, but the lack of AT in your list is a bit concerning. YMMV The voidraven needs a flickerfield, and maybe night shields. Shatterfield missiles are good, but implosion missiles are very overpriced for a small blast, even with the cool effect. Not worth the points, which you need to be spending towards troops.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Personally I wouldn't take any Archon's. They're too points costly for what little they do and I've tried a lot of things with them. Just throwing in one Heamonculi offers up a free Pain Token from the start. Lop him with a nine squad of Incubi or wracks and you've got a unit that can stand combat better.
You do need more AV in your list. The upgrades you've given your vehicles can be taken off. I haven't run any upgrades besides Splinter racks on my Raiders and they've lasted just as long as when I have run NS and FF. Same with the Ravagers.
I'd keep the scourges as they could pump out a hell of a lot of shots but maybe have one five man squad and the other an AV squad.

How typical that the humans should rely upon crude technology to protect them.
How fitting that we, the Dark Eldar should kill them where they feel safest.

using the 2 archons in those units pulls the fire away from my troops, yes i understand the incubi unit is open and not too fast but with the 2++ at the head they have never been killed in any games, usually my archon with the agoniser falls because i pop a land raider with the 5 blasters and the contents are usually an assault unit that shoot through the venom and walk through the infantry.
i dont like using wraks because they are slow, they cost 5 points cheaper than a space marine but have nothing over them, no armour, no range and are only S3..... poison weapons are the only thing i see they have going for them. the liquifier gun is ok but the AP is not reliable.
my anti tank is blasterborn, and all my vehicles in general.
the idea of a haemonculus in an incubi unit is quite a good as they are just about the only aspect of combat i like in the dark eldar.
my scourge unit is purely for anti infantry, it works and the invun helps with survivability a bit and their 42 shots per turn have made short work of carnifexes and terminators alike

Is this for a campaign (the title) or a tournament (the OP)? Makes a big difference in what people would suggest

Statistically wracks are better than wyches and kabals in every aspect, but if you enjoy using kabals their still very capable troops. Automatically Appended Next Post: well besides av hunting which wyches are obviously better at
