So here's my first attempt at making a list. I don't usually have to worry about fliers, if I do I'd end up swapping Centurions or something else to throw in some Stormtalons.

Primary Detachment - Salamander Chapter Tactic

HQ: Vulkan He'Stan - 190

Troops:

10x Tactical Squad: 220
-Melta Gun
-Multi Melta
-Combi-Melta
-Power Weapon (master crafted)
-Drop Pod

10x Tactical Squad: 220
-Melta Gun
-Multi Melta
-Combi-Melta
-Power Weapon (master crafted)
-Drop Pod

Elites:

9x Sternguard Veteran Squad: 308
-3x Combi-Melta
-2x Heavy Flamer
-Lightning Claw (master crafted)
-Drop Pod

Heavy Support:

Centurion Devastator Squad: 290
-2x Grav-Cannon/Amp
-1x Master Crafted Grav-Cannon/Amp
-3x Missile Launcher
-Omniscope

Thunderfire Cannon: 100
Thunderfire Cannon: 100

-------------------------------------------

Allied Detachment - Ravenguard Chapter Tactics

HQ: Captain Shrike - 185

Troops:

5x Scouts: 110
-Cloaks
-Land Speeder Storm

Elites:

5x Vanguard Veterans: 275
- 2x Thunderhammer/Stormshield
- 2x Dual Lightning Claws
- 1x Power Weapon/Stormshield
- Jump Packs

The idea is to bolster terrain with the Thunderfire cannons and placing Shrike w/Vets in them until I have a good opportunity to strike. Other than that Vulkan rides with the Sternguard (damn pod capacity changes made the points weird...) and the rest does what it normally does.

I can see one downfall with the list lacking troops, so we'll have to see how it goes. It's my first attempt at allying in anything since that became an option and coupled with the new 'dex I'm having trouble deciding how I want to run my Salamanders.

C&C very welcome. I would also like to get opinions on how a Salamander drop pod style list should be run in the new codex.

I'm really not convinced by Shrike. For 185 points rending lightning claws, the worst Warlord trait fixed and stealth (which I'm sure the rules experts will dispute as only applying to him, it doesn't say it goes to his unit) he seems really naff.

For the same price you can have a Chapter Master with 1+ wound and attack, armed with a thunder hammer, storm shield and JP, as well as O.B, or a Captain with the EW shield and relic chainsword and JP, which gives you more attacks, makes you twice as hard to kill, and all you really lose of worth is rending, which won't come as much use anyway with so few attacks. Shrike pales in comparison to both.

Hmm, that does change things. However, he does convey stealth as the USR states that a unit with at least 1 model with the special rule counts it's cover save as being 1 more than normal. IMO that's hard to argue.

At the same time, the other options are just as appealing
