I need some advice on how to make an effecient Dark Eldar army. I just started with this faction and needed to know what I should get.

Here is what I have so far:

HQ:

Dark Eldar Archon

Troops:

Dark Eldar Kabalite Warriors

Heavy Support:

Dark Eldar Chronos Parasite Engine

Here is what I plan to get:

HQ:

2 Dark Eldar Medusae

Fast Attack:

Dark Eldar Hellions

Please tell me what I need and don't need. Thank you!

In Order of importance: Ravagers (1 or 2), Venom for your Trueborn with Blasters and lastly Raiders for the Warriors. All 3 of these will add to your survivability, by way of mobility and anti tank.

Happy Hunting

I'm tired of these monkey loving snakes on this monday to friday plane!

Thanks TV editors.

Listen up,

6 units of warriors with blasters

3 units of trueborn 1 with blaster and 2 with splinter cannons

9 venoms with double cannon

3 ravagers

a beast pack

that's something like 180 shots a round or something its stupid and highly OP.

As for what you don't need, I'd probably do without the Medusae and Chronos. Both seem pretty awesome, but aren't consistently worth the points. If you want a nice, killy squad for your Archon, I'd recommend Incubi (not more than 5, that's just too many points) as a retinue. Also Haemonculi are sweet for a couple of reasons. 1st, they're a free pain token to any squad you attach them to (watch your Incubi starting the game with Feel No Pain do heinuos things to Tactical squads and Striking Scorpions alike) and a really lovely body for the Liquifier gun. This has been one of my favorite guns in the army, to date, allowing you to take advantage of Independent Character mechanics to get 3 or 4 hits per turn at very unreliably, but excitingly low AP. Lastly, Haemies let you take Wracks as troops! T4, Stock poisoned weapons, Feel No Pain right away for cheap? Option to add a Liquifier gun for every 5? Yes please. And they're scoring. It's a bargain.

I am trying to make a 950-1000pts army because I mainly play against my friend at my home. So I don't necesarily need anymore units than that.

In games that size, I'd go with an HQ and an Elite Squad, 2 or 3 Troops and a Heavy Support. Not only can you not afford much more than that, but for balance's sake, that should be pretty solid. This army is one of the original Transport armies and so, if nothing else, outside of what we've already discussed, put your squads (and your money) into Raiders and Venoms. The maneuverability and firepower you get from them is really substantial and, I think, indispensable.

Should I get a Talos Pain Engine instead?

Talos are sadly slow in an otherwise fast paced army. They scare the crap out of most opponents and for good reason, but because of that they tend to be fire magnets and rarely make up their points. The only way I've seen them used effectively is held in reserve and brought on to the middle of the table using a Webway Portal.

Otherwise I wouldn't bother. I'd put the points in Ravagers and trueborn. You can never have enough DarkLance shots.
