Having re-watched The Hobbit the other day, and also getting back into painting, I wondered about getting a Hobbit miniatures boxed st to paint. Kinda like the first Fellowship one they did.

So I went to the GW site... so that's that idea out the window then. No box set that I could see, but I could buy them individually, for £12.... £12 for a single model! What was even worse was that a non "character" model was £10. A model that would of used the same material, was £2 cheaper. The White Council is a whopping £45 for 4 models.

On the way from Mongoose Publishing I have 4 Judge models, each costing £5 each, with a Sov Block force box (containing 8 models) that cost £30 (that's two free models). So as mentioned, I won't be getting any of those models then.

When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

Ok, so you are looking for LotR/ Hobbit models and ended up getting Judge Dredd models for less. Where is this going, beside the inevitable "OMGGWSUCKSTHEYREOVERPRICED!" thread we see every week or so?

I don't know how helpful this will be to you, but here's a link to just the Thorin's Company sprue on ebay. If you miss this one they show up fairly regularly. They are plastic, but amazingly detailed models, very enjoyable to paint.

GW is expensive. Oh well. So is a girlfriend. But you go to jail when you paint them blue and put them in a box in your trunk. So gw wins.

No. I had already bought the JD models. Then having watched The Hobbit again the other day I started wondering about getting a box set to paint up, like I did with the 1st LOTR film. Having checked I was somewhat shocked at the cost, compared to my other recent purchase, that's all.

Thought that was what I'd said in my first post, but obviously not. Not really being involved in the GW scene for over 5 years now, it was quite a shock, that's all. Nothing more as I have nothing invested in GW to bleat about.

Exalted!

To the OP, if you feel the need to apologize for making the thread, in the title no less, maybe you should have just not posted?

While I understand that people may be a bit fed up with constant GWs price threads, I have two points.

1) It is clearly indicative of a problem, as more and more people feel compelled to start them
2) The lack of respect shown to the OP in the responses this far by some posters are at best flirting with, and arguably outright breaking, rule #1, and frankly, if you responded to me in a manner like this IRL you'd quickly find yourself being shaken warmly by the throat. Have a word with yourselves, post in a manner you would have people respond to your own posts.

@OP
It might have been more advisable to find the ongoing price thread, it isn't so old that it would have been threadomancy, and it is a bit difficult to see where the discussion can grow from in your post, it doesn't really pose a question or assert an opinion to generate responses beyond the eye rolling and thrashing about it already has.

Shame on you, OP. How dare you force SoloFalcon to read this thread!

There's a reason I only read, and longer participate in, these threads

It seems to lead me to a banning quicker than I realize I broke rule #1. Hahaha.

FWIW, Knight Models is about to come out with some even more expensive LoTR models. They'll be pretty, but they're going to cost more than the GW ones for sure.

Look, you can complain here about GW prices all you like, but it won't change anything. So, if you're just looking to complain, then don't bother and don't waste space in the forum. If, however, you're looking for advice, i.e. you're looking for alternate models, good independent retailers or the best deal, then we can help. Threads like that are fine. Ones that just whinge are not.

That's a fair comment. In my defense I wasn't looking to "bash" GW as such, just a personal opinion on how, as an ex GW gamer, the cost was actually quite shocking. As to SoloFalcons comments, what can I say? I'm a 45 year married man, with two granddaughters who love me, why on earth should I worry about what somebody on a forum says?

Oh, look it's those "this thread again"-posts again!

I agree it's a shame that the Hobbit minis are so pricey to buy new, because it's a really cool film (note I say "cool", not "good" ). It'd be nice to have the dwarfs, but oh well.

You can't have everything. You'll just have to get yourself a whiskey.

Yeah, I hate that kind of crap too. (although the "internet tough guy" material in your post is almost as bad. ). My personal favorite are the "this thread is a total waste of time" type posts. Such a total waste of time that the troll took time out and just had to post on said thread, right?

Personally, I blame the "4channer kiddie" attitude that has crept out of that cess-pool and infested much of the 'net. Christopher "moot" Poole needs to be beaten within an inch of his life with a heavy object for the damage he has done to this generatin of kiddies. Now don't get me wrong. I've been online for over 20 years and there has always been trolling and a disconnect due to perceived anonymity between some people's online behavior and the way they act in person. But it does seem as if there has been a sharp shift in the negative online behavior amongst today's yojngsters and how it was just a few years ago.

As opposed to posts like this which are off-topic and unnecessary. And you clearly haven't been to 4chan, where threads that crop up again and again simply get ignored after a while.

Yup, they're expensive. At least some of the increase is down to the licensing fee; if you look at Lego models, the ones that, with the same bricks, model items from Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, you'll see they are eye-wateringly high - and in those cases, the origination costs are minimal.

Your opinion has been noted, considered, (well, not really), and discounted. And please don't presume to tell me were I have been and have not been, son.
