So in the SW novel "Sons of Fenris" the DA marine subscribes himself as wearing dark robes, when the GW minis ussually sport light coloured robes.

Which of the two is it? Or is both possible

Cool book though, I love the way the DA and the SW are so different in both attitude and way of going about things

Both. And more.

Contrary to popular belief, the background in 40k is not a consistent collection of facts, but rather a multitude of opinions and interpretations - in the past at times explained by Codex authors and novel writers as everything you read being tainted by legend and myth or propaganda. Even the 6E rulebook briefly addresses this in the disclaimer preceding the timeline when it mentions historical revisionism. Here are a few statements on this subject.

Ultimately it is up to you. You can go either for GW's minis, or the novel, or come up with something else entirely!

Figured that DA in dark robes would look more stealthily maybe black cloaks would be cool

Everything and nothing is canon and all that aside, I can't say I remember ever seeing a Dark Angel in dark robes, unless it was a successor or a Deathwing member in a dark green robe.
