Subject: Looking for advice for a starter Convergence army based around Aurora Numen

Hi
I'm new to the game I have the main rulebook and the Convergence of Cyriss book but haven't read them yet
I've picked up and painted Aurora and a unit of Clockwork Angels and wanted advice on what to get next, I'm more of a painter than player so my priorities are usually round the wrong way
If I don't know what I'm getting next I'll probably end up buying some mini for another game so I need some help to keep me focused.
I will be getting the khador starter set at some point so want them to match up in points if possible and then I will build them up together from there.
Thanks

If you want to match up against the Khador box, either picking up the Convergence battlebox and swapping the casters would work, or if you're not interested in the Convergence box, picking up a couple of heavy kits and building them as a Cipher and an Inverter (or magnetizing both of them). Aurora with a Cipher and either an Inverter or a Monitor equals 11 points, same as the Khador battlebox. From there, adding your unit of Angels and 3 accretion servitors gets you to 15 points.

You - Ha! You've activated my trap card! Allied army! Come forth to assist!
Friend - Sup
Wolf Heathen - An equal point match?! This is not acceptable! Tau friend! Form up on me!
And then some guy throws a manta at the table and promptly breaks it in half sending figures and terrain everywhere. |

Thanks for that, I wasnt too keen on some of the minis in the battlebox. I'll look into picking up a couple of the heavy box's.
The new Steelsoul Protector model looks quite nice as well would she fit in with what I have after I add the angels?

I've had a lot of success using Aurora as an assassination caster, holding back a unit of angels for the flank bonus while whatever else I take harasses viable targets. Meanwhile, using a unit of Obstructors with double enigma foundries has been very successful in tarpitting units.
The basic idea is to get into a situation in which an inverter or mitigator can knock whatever is blocking a clean charge from one of the angels (Aurora herself can charge over almost any target in the game and risk the free strikes if she camps all 7 focus on assassination turn - you just need to watch out for effects that freeze or knock her down en route).
My 15- and 35- Aurora lists look like this:
System: Warmachine
Faction: Convergence of Cyriss
Casters: 1/1
Points: 15/15
Aurora, Numen of Aerogensis (*6pts)
* Mitigator (4pts)
* Inverter (8pts)
Clockwork Angels (Leader and 2 Grunts) (3pts)
Clockwork Angels (Leader and 2 Grunts) (3pts)
Enigma Foundry (3pts)
System: Warmachine
Faction: Convergence of Cyriss
Casters: 1/1
Points: 35/35
Aurora, Numen of Aerogensis (*6pts)
* Mitigator (4pts)
* Inverter (8pts)
Clockwork Angels (Leader and 2 Grunts) (3pts)
Clockwork Angels (Leader and 2 Grunts) (3pts)
Obstructors (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
Enigma Foundry (3pts)
Enigma Foundry (3pts)
Transinfinite Emergence Projector & Permutation Servitors (9pts)
Steelsoul Protector (2pts)
This strategy uses the Cyriss ability to smartly sacrifice infantry for recursion as well as the sturdiness of our shield wall to take advantage of Aurora's frankly absurd threat range. Angels can flank downfield very quickly once you reach the critical moment - I like to wing them off to the sides in a way that the opponent can't reasonably fry them all in a single turn, then literally just run into melee range of the enemy caster so Aurora can get the flank bonus. Against most targets MAT8 PS12 + 3d6 attacks are going to kill it. You have enough focus for 4 fully boosted attacks, too.

The Enigma Foundry, Transinfinite Emergence Projector & Permutation Servitors, and the Steelsoul Protector are all still waiting to be released. You can proxy them for the time being.

We're missing some really big, must-own pieces at this point, namely the Corollary, the Transfinite Emergence Projector, and the Enigma Foundry. I've been proxying anything that isn't actually out.
I think the Steelsoul Protector just got announced for actual release though. I'm a fan of the model.

There is also a limited edition convention Steelsoul Protector available on eBay if you really don't want to proxy models...

I'm probably going to get accusations of heresy flung at me for this, but what little thinking I've done on Aurora makes me think she would really want a unit of Eradicators. Just think of eradicators charging in with transference on feat turn: boosted MAT 9 POW 12, sidestep, boosted MAT 9 POW 12, Refuge advance to jam into another unit...
