What wargaming Taught me.

1:No matter how small the matter, grown men will turn into raving lunatics to get their point across.
2:The best tactic is keep throwing dice at your opponent, Not rolling them but physically throwing it at them.
3: People hate the color grey, Whether it is a specific army, or Unpainted models.

So what has wargaming Taught you?

Also that nobody who complains about these people will ever include themselves in this classification.

If you cut yourself while working on a model, your spouse will never let you live it down.

Some people give up even before the game starts, and decide to just make you miserable.

Wargaming has taught me that some people's self esteem rides entirely on whether or not they beat you at toy soldiers.

Oh and also don't hesitate to question your opponents grasp of their own codex/army list. I've seen wargear magically appear when needed. I've also spent enough time in the army list section of this forum to realise that many players screw up their point calculations (5 pts over is annoying, 20 pts over is ughhhh, 1 squad over C'MON!)

I learned that this hobby can attract some really weird people, and some really awesome ones as well.

I also learned that there's nothing quite like seeing two fully painted armies on a table with good terrain

'I've played Guard for years, and the best piece of advice is to always utilize the Guard's best special rule: "we roll more dice than you" ' - stormleader

I see no rage in his post, so why should he?

On-topic.

I learned that there is a limit to how many Cadian I can be bothered to paint.

Tyranid monstrous creatures are even scarier than they look.

A shrub offers a 1 in 3 chance of stopping a lascannon from splatting a terminator.

The plural of codex is codexes.

You should look at youtube comments and political websites. It's not just us.

2:The best tactic is keep throwing dice at your opponent, Not rolling them but physically throwing it at them.

This is really just a corollary to point 1, don't you think?
3: People hate the color grey, Whether it is a specific army, or Unpainted models.

Oooh, I see what you did there.

No matter how many notebooks of accounts of dice rolling I keep, my opponents will continue chalking my pessimism over dice rolls to confirmation bias.

At one time, I actually thought this to be true.

After getting to the emergency room, I got berated by the nurse for having a gaping puckering wound (still bleeding) filled with super glue. Apparently that stuff is ungood to actually get INSIDE you.

I then had to explain what I was cutting that I had superglue closer than some cloth to use to slow the bleeding. :(

What I've learned from wargaming...

Grey plastic crack is expensive
The new hotness is always the best, until the next new hotness
GW faq randomly - RAI is a myth as no one can guess what they'll do next. Common sense is not a factor
Not all staff at GW's do the 'won't let you leave till you've bought something'
That there are some people in this game who...turn out to be nice friendly normal people
rather than the gw hating, neckbeard wearing, mouthbreathing, women hating/loving/creeping, waac/faac rage quitters we've all read about
A good player with a bad army will still pound your face in on the tt
A bad player with a good army probably won't
Don't play ten year olds who only roll 6's (even when you give them different dice )
Some 10 yrs olds are more fun to play than some grown men
Forgeworld always need more of my money
Black Library release an insane amout of literature
Some books really ARE worth £70
Comic books for £85 aren't...
That even though the rules aren't tight, there are arguments for many interpretations and many loopholes, 40K still manages to be fun*

*Definition of fun is subjective, actual experience may vary

Did you know that, in Monopoly, if you land on an unowned property and choose not to buy it, it's supposed to be auctioned to the highest bidder? (Seriously, check the rule book.)

I've learned that some of the most opinionated, close-minded, exclusionary people you can meet are the same people who were opinionated against and excluded when they were younger.

Very true my friend.

I learned that wives an girlfriends can get upset over manbarbies and thier dollhouses (aka terrain) when it starts taking over the house.
Also that not all neck beards are social miscast. Now that I think about maybe I'll try growing one. When it comes to the belly I'll let time get to it, for now I'll just watch what I eat and continue to get some exercise.

It's one of the strangest rules in the game. I love rules lawyering people though, it makes me feel strong, which is a good feeling for a rather short Asian-looking guy

As much as I thought everyone knew that rule in monopoly...I then realized that we never did it. Huh.

As for wargaming...I've learned that no matter how much I love my models being painted well, painting a Storm Raven will make me sick of painting by hand for months afterwards. I even discovered spraying since and haven't fully recovered...Haha.

OT: It makes for a much faster game. The properties all sell out much more quickly.

Another thing I've learned: 75%+ of the dudes at the FLGS are apparently sexual superstars that have no problem finding and taking home the freakiest women on the planet. Porn stars have nothing on the girls they find. At least, that's if they're telling the truth. I mean, why would they lie, right?
