Building a tau list for my friend, competitive tournament, it's not for doubles. Been advised to take this list, what do you think?

You doing the GW school league?

Either way, sounds like a good focus fire army. I would advise trying to find a vehicle in there (my 600 points list runs canoptek scarabs, so that counters any).

I wouldn't worry about having a vehicle. At low points levels sky rays aren't really worth it, devilfish are never worth it and hammerheads are a bit meh nowadays.

You have two good blocks of troops, broadsides are unbeatable in respect of firepower and the riptide gives your opponent something to be concerned about.

I would suggest trying to get a few markers in there but I can see points being a bit too restrictive for this. However if you do manage it two would be very nice to reduce any cover saves.

Very good point! Just tell your friend to keep them safe lol otherwise that's a nice easy kill point for first blood, but Im sure they aren't stupid!

I really like your list, I think that all the elements will really come together however, I too have written a 600 point army list and would like to compare it to yours:

HQ - Ethereal (Great for the multiple Buffs and Leadership Bubble)
= 50

Troops - 9x Fire Warriors (Great General Purpose unit small enough to hide until late game objective grabbing)
Troops - 6x Fire Warriors w/EMP Grenades (Small unit that can be used as a suicide squad or a late game objective grabber)
= 150

Elites - XV104 Riptide w/Ion Accelerator + Fusion Gun + EWO (Tough as NAILS and a great source of an intercepting S8 AP2 Large Blast)
= 190

Heavy Support - 3x Broadside Battlesuit's w/EWO (Ethereal goes here, Great unit for just forcing wounds and stripping Hull points from fliers and vehicles)
= 210

TOTAL = 600 points

I feel that this list puts out ALOT more fire power than your list and would be incredibly scary to face at 600 points. It also provides some defence against fliers which your list lacks.

I'm not a tau expert so I personally wouldn't be able to compare, I do believe your list lacks a bit in the troop section and relies quite heavily on the broadsides, is this a fair judgement?

If the units are well hidden then 6 is plenty

@ATO which list do you think would be better?

Both are nice, yours has markerlights which I think is lacking in the second list. Troops at low points can always be hidden but obviously a lot of objective based games.

One thing I don't like in both lists is the HQ choice but that is just preference. The ethereal is gonna give an extra VP which may be crucial at extra low point games.

See if you can squeeze in a commander of some sort.

To get a Commander into my original list I'd have to take out the pathfinders...

Then I would leave it, just make sure you get that 12 man FW unit in a nice amount of cover!

Yeah, there's plenty of terrain in a 6 x 4 board so it'll be ok
