Got a bucketload of Dark Eldar foot sloggers coming in, so wondering how you'd go about using a list like this?

No Pain Engines or Khymerae yet, but might convert some Wraithlords and Genestealers or something

I would just run up the middle with vect and the grots (with sarg in there to take his challenge) and the flocks to engage first and tie things up. Warrior units shoot as many dudes as possible while hanging next to the objectives. I haven't tried this list yet, just seeing what others thought.

The Twilight Zone

Running DE on foot is a very hard way to go about playing, as most of your army will evaporate when bolters are pointed their way. To make things worse, your AT is very short range and on mostly frail platforms, making tanks a real issue. Foot DE might be one of the hardest armies to run in 40k, so know that your going uphill and most armies can table you in 2-3 turns.

If your dead set, then there are only a few choices per force org slot to consider.

For HQ, you want/need the baron. He is criminally cheap and goes perfectly in a beastpack. He also unlocks hellions as troops, which are decent on foot in large numbers. They are functionally faster warriors with more all around purpose, albeit at higher cost. If your not putting any armor on the table, 1-2 units make for decent troops.

Another HQ to consider is the Duke. Put em in a 20 man warrior blob with 2 splinter cannons behind an ADL with your choice of gun. Now you have a lot of 3+ poison dakka with a 4+ cover save and a decent chance at feel no pain.

Hamey's are good to unlock wracks and hand out pain tokens.

Vect(or any archon) in with Grots make for a decent, but slow beatstick. Played right they will do a lot of damage, but I would toss vect for a more affordable character. Consider Eldar allies here for a Phoenix lord or farseer.

In elites, Grotesques, minimal trueborn squads with 2 splinter cannons or dark lances are really your only options. I would go with lances for AT purposes, as you really need the fire.

Kabbies work well in large squads, but in small squads don't bother. Wracks are not bad as they will survive some dakka, but are not great.

In fast attack beastmasters are great. Also consider reaver jetbikes for AT and fast all purpose work.

If you don't want ravagers or fliers for heavy support then Talos it is. Keep em cheap with stock tail cannon, haywire is ok. TL liquifier gun is fantastic for the points.

To have a decent chance, your going to need eldar allies. A farseer can really help your list with psychic buffing. Jetbikes are cheap effective troops, war walkers or wraithknights are good heavy for long ranged AT.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.
