Hello all, this is going to be a bit on an unusual thread, because this is kind of going to be like a P&M blog, but there’s going to be no minis. Instead this blog will follow me as I build three costumes for myself and two of my friends for Halloween. I’m already well into building these, and you may have seen some of these pictures in the all hallows eve thread, but I felt kind of bad for hijacking that thread when I was the only one posting. Also if anyone has any costumes they want to make, but are not sure just how, please ask me what you’re trying to make and I may be able to give you some advice, and if I can’t I know some people who can (like for example if you’ve ever seen the show Face Off I sometimes exchange notes with RJ from that show who lives near where I go to college) anyways let me show you what I’ve got so far:

here's where my costume stands, basically I'm going as a werewolf based on the great concept art from the MtG set Innistrad. this is the bodysuit that I'm working with right now, I just need to finish the upper arm and upper leg musculature then cover it in fake fur. if you're wondering why there's not musculature on the legs that's because:

I'm going to be adding these to the bodysuit. they're a pair of stilts that adds like a foot to my height (because no one would be intimidated by a 5'5" werewolf) and makes my legs look like canine legs.
and here's my friend Alyssa's costume, she's going to be a naga:

basically a lot of my monster costumes start with one of these bodysuits, they're just so darn convenient to have a tight fitting outfit that comes in multiple colors and accepts glue readily. basically because to fit her for the costume she put on the suit and I just kind of built the foam up around her. the foam is another godsend to costumers: urethane upholstery foam, this stuff finds its way into almost all my costumes because it's relatively light and easy to use, in fact they used this stuff to make the raptors in the first Jurassic Park movie. now all I need to do is coat it all in the kind of latex they use to make masks and stuff and then paint a snake skin texture on it and she should be a very convincing naga.

here's the rest of her tail, it's maybe 4 to 6 feet long and will trail out behind her as she walks. basically to make this I used measurements of the widest part of most women's bodies: the hips, and made the tail to have an inner circumference that would be able to pass her hips and reach her waist . if you're wondering how the heck she's going to walk in this:

here's how! the tail splits about halfway down to let her feet out so she can walk. then when she sits down she can reach her feet into those straps and close the tail up with Velcro so that it will look like she was actually slithering on a tail.
also I have one last thing to show you guys for now:

this is the start of the tail for my other friend Ellen's Ocelot costume. I was sitting with her for a late night snack one night and she was talking about her LARP character who's an ocelot. she complained that it was a pain to have to wear long sleeves because she didn't want to take the time to apply makeup to her arms and legs when she LARPed, so I suggested that she try a bodysuit so all she would need to apply makeup to would be her face. she agreed to try out the bodysuit at a party first so that she wouldn't make a fool of herself if everything went wrong if she tried it at a LARP event.
anyways I've already coated the tail in some latex because urethane foam eats the stuff up like a sponge and I knew I wouldn't have much latex in the golden ocelot fur color I needed for her entire suit, so I made a base coat out of some leftover from a previous project.

that's pretty much all I've got for now, feel free to ask me anything about these costumes or any costumes you need help with.

I love this kind of cosplay WIP stuff. Keep it up!

Well bad news, a shipment of supplies for making this costume just arrived that was supposed to be delivered last Friday, and the company mispacked my order! now I don't have the supplies I need to complete my werewolf costume in time for the party next week! luckily all is not lost, I left some supplies at home that I can use. I got some inspiration for my new costume from a dream I had last night: my new costume is going to be based on the art of the Pit Fiend on page 81 of the pathfinder bestiary. hopefully my parents will be able to ship my supplies today so that they'll arrive Friday and I should be able to get this done in time. wish me luck!
